The Metro 'worst fears' over HBO Potter series

I can't decide if the author of this article is not very bright, not very nice or both. But there are 5 attacks on JK Rowling in just a single opinion piece. Usual Metro garbage and of course we don't expect high brow from them but good grief it's disheartening that this much misinformation can be published and distributed.

Look at the media's current obsession with whether the movie cast share JK Rowling's gender critical views or not and how those who don't are heavily criticised. But at least by this point all the movie cast are now adults.

Absolutely a fair point; the ex-Potter actors have come in for far too much scrutiny from all directions because of the popularity of the books and films. I certainly don't think any child actor should be harassed and I would hope that they will be shielded from this.

Authors shouldn't have to renege on their views in order to protect some unknown child actor from criticism for agreeing or disagreeing with them, though! Someone will always find something to criticise, after all.

Good lord. I agree with @Christinapple on something. I do think the young actors are really going to be in the public spotlight which is probably never going to be a good thing. Not just because of rows over JK Rowling but just growing up in public. Hopefully, they will be very well protected but TV is not well known for it's safeguarding.

You'd think that the Metro would stop writing articles like this when they realise quite much their audience disagrees with them. It can't be doing their credibility any good.

Before I read the article, I'm going to put a fiver on 'both'. (I suspect I won't get very good odds - it's almost always both.)

That article is probably doing wonders for their engagement - lots of clicks and comments, happy advertisers.

Yep. Both.

The point about the risks of fame for child actors is a valid one, but appallingly badly made.

Makes me chuckle that believers in the magical thinking of gender woo and how special it makes them are trying to cancel a series about magical thinking and one boys specialness in it all.

I'm imagining Hagrid uttering the immortal line 'you're a woman Harry!'

The total perspective vortex in hitch hikers guide should be a real thing.

It is impossible to cancel Harry Potter. Articles like this just fuel the hype for the TV series. Most of the readers of it WILL watch the series or talk about it.

They tried this line with the Hogwarts Legacy game what happened?
All the drama boosted discussion of the game and helped make it a huge bestseller.

It made WB well over a billion dollars 100,000s of which went to JKR.

Sales of books, merchandise, and streams of HP and the over growing number of amusement parks still make HP a huge cash cow. WB know this they get the sales figures. They are indeed hoping the series will work... and there is a good chance it will. All they need to do is stick to the books, get good actors etc.

If these bigots want to replace HP. Simple just write something that appeals to a huge worldwide audience of kids. Publishers, and studios are desperate for it. They are constantly hunting. Only nothing has turned up to replace it.

Anymore than you can easily replace James Bond, Mary Poppins or Mickey Mouse or anything else iconic.

Exactly.
Quote from the article:
"Much like the Defence Against the Dark Arts position, the whole series is starting to seem cursed"

Ah yes, nothing says 'cursed' like a franchise where the books, after 27 years, still top best-seller lists, that has the best selling video game of the year, still sells millions of merch every year, 2 film series, 2 theme parks visited by millions worldwide, a theatre production that has run for 8 years and has since opened in multiple other countries...
If that's "cursed" then send me to st mungos...

FranticFrankie · 17/09/2024 19:46

What a rubbish and poorly written article- has this person ever read JKR’s statement that she’s complaining about??
Sounds like an angry teen. Surprised she didn’t end it with “it’s not FAIR!” before stomping upstairs

tobee · 17/09/2024 21:31

Every time I read these kind of articles I just think "embarrassing".
