But how was this ever allowed to happen in the first place?

Completely agree, it is positive that he has had his PR removed, as I believe that this is incredibly rare. It’s very concerning that the mum had to appeal the first decision for her DD to have unsupervised contact with a convicted rapist 🤯

Also it seems like a factor in the final decision was the fact that he disengaged from proceedings, which makes you wonder if it would have been the same outcome if he had continued fighting.

Does this also mean he has zero financial responsibility though 🤦‍♀️. Gets to rape the child’s mother, then walk away financially. Whilst I’m sure the woman is satisfied that her child won’t have anything to do with him, it doesn’t feel right.

It took my ex turning up to crt drunk and trying to attack the judge for him to lose parental rights even though he had previous convictions for assaulting both my dd and myself. Cafcas thought he should get unsupervised overnight access in his flat share.
This was almost 20 years ago and I'm saddened to see things haven't improved for women and children

Things might have changed but no my ex still had to pay(though that was another saga that ended up with a different crt order against his house because he refused to pay) he just got zero access or say in her life

@Hoardasurass so sorry you went through that. I had 7.5 years in the Family Courts against a violent, alcoholic drug addict who had attacked both me and my daughter. The courts and CAFCASS were a nightmare. It was only a combination of a change of CAFCASS officer, who persuaded the judge to allow my daughter to refuse visits plus her father attempting to strangle her AGAIN that finished contact, not because the court said no, but because my daughter did.

Igmum · 15/09/2024 09:45

This case is good news. I hope it marks a change in the courts, but suspect it's an isolated incident.

Cafcass needs to do a lot of learning;

Despite the serious findings made against him, including rape, by District Judge Sophie Harrison, White had previously been granted unsupervised access to his daughter after a recommendation by the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass).

Harrison’s order permitting contact, made in February, was overturned after a successful appeal by the mother. White’s contact with the girl was suspended pending the court’s final orders, and the matter was referred to Moradifar.
After the appeal, the TBIJ and the freelance journalist Suzanne Martin successfully applied to the court to name White. A new children’s guardian from Cafcass advised the court at that point that White was “a danger to women and children” and “unsafe to have any involvement in [the child]’s or her family’s life”.
In an interview, the mother, who had represented herself in court up until February’s hearing, said it was concerning that two Cafcass employees came to polar opposite conclusions.
Cafcass, which earlier this year received an “outstanding” rating from Ofsted, declined to comment on the case after the final hearing. However, Moradifar said that senior Cafcass officers had been in touch with the court to request previous judgments from the case to see if there “might be some learning”.

The whole core of Cafcass argument is that the relationship with the Father is for the benefit of the DC. They seem to find it hard to understand that DM aren't keeping their DC away out of spite, some do, but far more are trying to protect them. It seems ridiculous that anyone thinks a DC is helped by staying overnight with an abusive man

No, parental responsibility is separate from child maintenance.

Hoardasurass · 15/09/2024 10:26

@Igmum I'm so sorry that you went through this too. I have no doubt that the judge was going to give my ex the access he wanted as he'd been nodding along with his lawyer and really harsh with mine. I thank my lucky stars that the twat couldn't stay sober for whole trial and showed the judge exactly who he was

MsNeis · 15/09/2024 14:08

An abuser is not and can not EVER be a good father 🙏
(I'm sorry to all of you who have experienced such terrible ordeals, I wish you and your DC the best).
