https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/1fenk83/got_invited_to_use_the_ladies_changing_rooms/

"she asked me if I wanted to try them on and invited me into the ladies changing rooms - despite there being a sign saying "women only - all gender changing rooms available downstairs." I definitely don't feel like I am passing"

The complaints form for Primark, is here:

If you think complaining is too much - remember - your daughter could be in that changing room, maybe half dressed, whilst a man waves his genitals about behind the curtain next door. And he was invited in.

"girlmoding"

bleurgh

Staff training needed.

Starting with "Can you read that sign?" with follow up questions on what it means.

If it happened. Half of what's on Reddit is fantasy and that seems like unusually attentive staff for Primark, who mostly can't tell you where the jumpers are never mind recommend pairs of trousers and invite you into the changing room.

All the more reason to complain, link to it and demand children are properly safeguarded?

Be careful, we're not allowed to tell the truth nowadays. Remember, if you have a problem with a naked man in a women's dressing room, you're a bigot.

Chersfrozenface · 13/09/2024 11:10

Mind you, the good little ally assistant (and I do believe such people exist) may just be following company policy, the latest version of which that I can find is as follows:

"The women-only area is for all women and customers are not required to provide identification. If someone appears to be deliberately trying to abuse the policy then the store will manage at their discretion."

The assistant might believe that "all women" includes transwomen (the policy above does not contradict that and indeed might appear to suggest it) and that just trying on clothes (as the, er, customer claimed to be doing) does not constitute "deliberately trying to abuse the policy".

I remember spending Saturdays as a teenager going into town with my friends, visiting shop after shop and trying on clothes for fun.

Now, as a mother, I can't imagine letting my own teenage daughter do the same because it’s just not safe for her to do so.

NPET · 13/09/2024 12:37

Well if I'd been there they'd certainly have heard me complain (& not go back there).
What gets me is some of the comments on the original Reddit post.
Whether I want to or not, I have to recognise that some people are "trans". Fair enough, but if they have a peπis they must not share a space or area marked for those of us who don't have one!
(Sorry I'm doing what I hate there and suggesting that we've got a bit missing, when in fact we've got a LOT more than they have!)

This was my first thought. It's a fairy tale. I just don't believe it happened.

Excellent resources here and you can email them to report bad practice here as they are evidence gathering.

Two things stick out to me here.

  1. Imagine having your first weekend job at a young age, for minimum wage and having to or finding the courage to tell someone that they can't get changed in a certain place when they're clearly pushing for it. A very unfair situation. There should be a way to get the manager over to deal with this if required.
  1. The person on the changing room may have had the belief that this is ok and was happy to do this. Not everyone is on the same page. We can't stop that. Regardless of signs etc, it would be hard to police.

No, sadly, it’s not dramatic at all.

It needs to be very clear. Not mealy mouthed.

men are not allowed into women’s changing rooms regardless of having a dress on.

Are you genuinely serious?

Eat Blue Jeans GIF by Robert E Blackmon

Men ( unless surgically altered) dont fit into women’s trousers, for obvious reasons. Possibly into some very baggy tracksuit bottoms, but do Primark sell them ( never been there). So this is either fantasy, or Primark have some damaged goods to deal with.
