He's a grumpy old man essentially but made some telling jokes about gender identity for newer generatiosn. Have a potted history of feminism with the conclusion gen z might do all the good with with a fixation on trans rights. Some giggle moments with sex allocation at both not being too hard 'boy sick girl fanny'.

He could have gone a bit further but maybe doesn't need the grief. Nice to see a bit of mockery of the teams movement in a non aggressive way using a bit of mockery. Pity the guys old really like the audience but fun.

Why is it a shame that he's old?

And how old does one have to be to qualify as 'old'?

Apologies for the old.....but ageist. Good comedy though and very clever. Felt like he wanted to say more but didn't want to step over a line.Basically said he want going to be on the right side of history.

Oh thank God, I thought you were saying he'd been captured. I haven't yet read Identity Crisis (must do that!) but I read many of his earlier novels when I was younger and always found them very incisive. I'd have been extremely disappointed if, after all that, he couldn't see what was going on here!

I was very puzzled by the OP too, Ben Elton seemed like one of the least likely people to 'believe'! He's a smart, funny man. Age is irrelevant - are you very young, OP? Do you realise you'll be 65 too, one day?

Completely understand him not wanting to fully out himself as GC, far too much hassle. Mockery is the best way of dealing with it.

65 is old. I know we don't perceive ourselves as old once we get there (I'm 62, but still only about 35 in my head), but 65 is old. 🤷‍♂️

Old is, apparently, anyone 15 years or more older than you are. So I'm guessing the OP is under 45.

I'm 36 and I'd consider 65 old, but that doesn't mean I think it's a bad thing to be!

I'd quibble with your maths, though - I think when I was about, say, 17, being over 20 seemed old, boring, staid and settled!
