Good Law Project - Money running out/ Joylon position unsafe?

Labour Pains blog have revealed that GLP are running on dry:

Under the Sunak-led Tories, the GLP launched new crowdfunders at a rate of more than one a month: 21 of them in the 18 months from 1 January 2023 to the General Election on 4 July, contributing to an overall total of 73 since 2017. In July and August last year the GLP launched four new crowdfunded legal challenges. But since Keir Starmer entered Downing Street two months ago, this industrial scale grifting has ground to a halt.

In fact, since 4 July, the GLP have closed four crowdfunders (all launched in 2024), and as a result they currently have only three open crowdfunders, all of them moribund. In August last year the GLP grifted thousands of donations totalling £82,744 via 11 different crowdfunders. So far this month, they’ve raked in just five donations totalling a mere £45, including two simultaneous £1 donations that were most likely made by a criminal testing out stolen credit/debit cards.

Joylon has disappeared into the mountains since July 21st. At this moment we can neither confirm nor deny Mumsnet rumours he has been eaten by a pack of foxes led by the vixen partner of the fox he murdered. However it seems his position at GLP is being questioned:

More to the point, last week it emerged that the GLP Board – from which Labour peer Stewart Wood resigned on 31 July – feel much the same way. Because they are currently seeking to recruit an Interim Managing Director with a “demonstrable track record of successful design and delivery of change [sic]”

Jolylon the founding Executive Director will be "working alongside" this new hire:

The chosen candidate will have the unique chance to design and lead change, enabling the organisation to deliver its objectives while working alongside the founding Executive Director. The role is interim for six to nine months in the first instance.

Is he training his replacement?

[Anyway it seems his time off was not productive. Unlike JKR who was spending August productively building a polar bear army in Greenland.]

Although we love to hate the fox-botherer here I think we need to acknowledge the good GLP has done the pro-women cause.

By being spectacularly bad lawyers GLP has wasted over £200,000 crowdfunded pounds for gender cases which could have been used in far more dangerous ways. GLP has lost every single gender case it has taken to court though many didn't even get that far. This pushes case law in a more reality based direction.

It has helped solidify a trend where pro-women lawyers keep looking at a long list of wins. Meanwhile the legal profession who see Joylon and GLP as useless grifters are not impressed by the TA side.

He has strengthened the pro-women side inside Labour by pushing Wes Streeting and others more firmly into the reality camp.

He has led to the NHS officially discrediting the suicide myth.

It helped strengthen the position of the Cass Review and confirm its authority.

Good Law Project: things fall apart

Next week, when MPs return to Westminster to begin work on the ambitious legislative programme set out in the King’s Speech on 17 July, the new Labour Government will be well into the second …

I'm worried about Jolyon. He said he would be off TwiX for a fortnight while walking in the mountains. It's been six weeks, give or take a few days.

Is he spending forty days and forty nights in the wilderness? Will he return from the mountains with tablets of stone?

Maybe he’ll return as Jily-Ann?

Just a quick round of applause for your excellent use of vulpicide!

Why, thank you.

JM IS the GLP, there isnt anyone else, not even a lonely secretary.

I found it really disorientating when the GLP morphed from Something Good to Something Bad. It was really hard to keep up with the change, like when you struggle to achieve a Gestalt switch in relation to a tricksy optical illusion.

It reminds me of the confusion I felt when Stonewall first started to become conspicuously a bad organisation .I had spent decades admiring it. Its virtue seemed as solid and indestructible as the stone wall its name conjures up. And then suddenly the evidence became overwhelming and the Gestalt switched

According to its website the staff are:
JM, Executive Director
Siham Bortcosh, Chief Operating Officer
Vic Langer, Director of Campaigns
Laura Parker, Chief of Staff

I did like this dig about tax avoidance lawyer fox botherer's hypocrisy, he who made his own fortune by helping very wealthy people keep hold of more of their fortunes now pontificates and lectures about paying taxes. I would hazard a guess that JM made use himself of the very same tax avoidance measures he advised his clients on.

Imo one of the reasons he detests JKR so much is because she does and always has paid all her taxes due on her wealth and does not seek to avoid paying.

On 11 August, the GLP did have a gentle pop at Reform MP Richard Tice’s financial arrangements, with Jolyon quoted as saying: “If you really love your country you pay your taxes. You want young people to be well educated and older people to be cared for. You want a decent police force and your armed forces veterans looked after.” Though it’s yet to be confirmed whether Jolyon ever said this to his clients while making his own fortune as their tax (avoidance) lawyer. And a few days later Jolyon helpfully provided the Guardian with a similarly snide comment about Nigel Farage’s earnings.

The blog post/article also says GLP have 40 staffers if so that is a fair old wage bill to be covered.

ChaChaChooey · 28/08/2024 15:12

Yeah, that design-award-winning windmill renovation deffo wasn’t cheap! I don’t think he ever really lived in it either? Sold now but sat on the market for ages.

Can’t imagine the book sold well either, not after the utterly scathing reviews it got in the press (I did learn the term ‘bloviator’ tho, so that’s one thing I can forever associate with Jolly).

What do they all do though? I mean, Stonewall have 130 staffers and I'm not sure how they put their day in, but Stonewall is a legitimately big organisation. It doesn't take 40 people to run crowdfunders and issue letters before action.

Rightsraptor · 28/08/2024 15:30

I wouldn't say that the likely reason for the £1 donations is fraud or other criminal activity. There are some dreadful people who part with £1 to crowdfunders they disapprove of so that they can leave a comment about it.

Shocking behaviour, I know, and I'm sure none of us would do such a thing.

Wasn't there a long running dispute with the builder who did the renovations because JM man of the working people and defender of all things right hadn't paid him?

Even the US is fast retreating from progessivism and identity politics - it barely got a mention at the Democrat Convention. The Dems have finally accepted it's not a vote winner.

The Dems are keeping quiet about it because it's not a vote winner. That doesn't mean they won't continue with gender lunacy after they've got the votes.

Watch what they do, not what they say - or what they keep silent about.

Nah, I bet they're happy to let it drop and they'll slither onto the next gimmick.

It's not like they ever believed the lie they told. I mean, who does?? It's all getting more and more tenuous and deranged. When the shit hits the fan they want to be well clear.

So they'll undo all the letting transwomen compete in women's sports, be housed in women's prisons, use women's toilets and changing rooms and saunas and sorority houses, take women's prizes, awards and places on positive action schemes, change official ID to the opposite sex or none?

Really?

Yes, Jolyon's messianic outbursts can be a bit unsettling.

Personally, I think that he'd have been better addressing his midlife crisis by buying a leather jacket, or maybe a sports car. People might have thought he was a bit of a div, but they wouldn't have thought he was unhinged.

What part of my post suggests that?

RedToothBrush · 28/08/2024 17:06

Oh dear. Did all the people who had donated, finally realise that it was a grift purely to pay its own staff?

What a shame.
