'I'm being investigated for discrimination because I saw a man and described them accordingly. I described them as a man as that's what I saw; an obvious male person with heavy male build, male jawline, male gait, male voice, and definitely male aggression. This person threatened me, and now I'm the one being investigated for "misgendering". There was no visible name badge, no "transwoman" tattooed on forehead. I have lawyered up to fight this, again.'

@StealthSpinach

Ah ha. That’s a couple of things explained then.

And?

NotYourCisterinAus · 29/08/2024 01:44

It's worth noting that Tasmania was the very last state in Australia to decriminalise homosexuality - in 1997. Make of that what you will...

Nope, they're completely off their tits on this crap.

Well not most of us. Just some weirdo judges and commisioners. The rest of us think it's crap.

Absolutely not. Thats never been the case despite the image.
As the youngest 'western' nation they can be even more batshit than Americans.
They take to cults like a duck to water.

Australia, Tasmania and NZ are full of them, from Scientology to the Famiy which Julian Assange was part of, and freakier ones in between invariably involving incest.
And they just love their 'New Age' therapies, its completely mainstreamed.
Jane Campions miniseries Top of the Lake was bannanas but still pretty accurate.
And most of all they have a terrible FOMO and of been seen as hicks in the sticks.

Edited

Well that's a lot of shite in one post!

Australian women are fine. Really. Pom land - 'Terf Island' 🙄 - appears to much, much worse going by reports here. Cherry-picking articles will always make things look uglier than they are.

I disagree. I don’t think things are ‘fine’ here.

I think most people in Aus would agree that the Trans debate doesn’t really pass the pub test. But at the same time, few people are actually willing to stand up and be counted publicly.

And, of course, like most liberal democracies, the politicians, public service, media, and academics are all so open minded that their brains have fallen out especially keen to be seen as progressive and open minded.

In contrast, the UK may seem ‘much, much worse’ but that is because there is an active response and resistance to the gender nonsense.

Isn't Mary of Denmark Tasmanian?

yes. Our very own Queen Mary. Love her.

Don't think it's right to condemn Tasmania because one horribly disturbed individual carried out an horrific massacre.

But yes it is right to say that Australia is off it's tits with this crap. (Although even my so open- minded- her- brains- have- fallen out 75 year old aunt who last year decided she needs to be referred to by they/them pronouns is starting to get a bit real on the subject).

myhappychappy · 29/08/2024 09:46

Only men would find a way to whine about their oppression and turn their rank misogyny into a "minority status". Makes me spits feathers with rage on a daily basis. On a perso al level, saw a group on Facebook for "Indie Music Bands For Women Over 40". Had a quick look and low and behold, it was my ex friend and gas lighting cruel w*nker who treated my friend and their children really badly when he decided he was a woman 5 years ago. But hey, he and his mates are representing women in indie music bands now for women over 40 you will all pleased to know(actually said this on the Group page ffs!).
Damn the lot of them to hell

And that’s entitles you to speak for Australian women collectively?

Confused

Nope.

And as another Australian joining this thread I also disagree that Australian women are fine.

I also disagree that our children and teenagers are fine. They are being very poorly served with the current gender clinics and loud groups declaring that Dr Cass’ work is to be discredited. And the bonkers shit that some of the journos repeat about how male athletes have no advantage. I was horrified when I saw Peter Fitzsimmons quote Miller a couple of years ago as a source of authority. Miller? Our ex-aquatic champ now 55+ year old male rugby player who hates people mentioning that Miller is decades above the oldest other players in the Broken Hill team…. because no menopausal woman would be playing rugby with women who were just in their twenties without significant injuries benching them regularly. That Miller…

So, no. Australian women are not fine but they certainly are waking up to what is happening.

Generally, there has always been something very creepy about Tasmania, stunningly beautiful though it is.
The Aboriginals were basically genocided from there, and incest is a national joke.
Then there was the convicts prison, and of course Martin Bryant.
It has a ghostly feel, with bad Juju

Tassie has so many wonderful things about it too though.

Wine is just the start!

Although there's a row about collecting gender & sexuality data in the next Australian Census, because there's been too much of a row about these matters lately, says Anthony Albanese. (He's become a lot wimpier than I remember he was at university ...)

Helleofabore · 31/08/2024 11:47

Remember though that Albo is beholden to his ex-wife and her faction in the Labour Party. He was always going to be trying to please all the factions.

YellowAsteroid · 31/08/2024 12:17

Well, given that back in 1980, one faction of NSW Labour organised a member of the opposing faction to be beaten up ...

But it's news items like the in the OP which make me a bit cautious & wary of having misogyny as a hate crime. It's too easily turned against women. Because ... misogyny

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 31/08/2024 12:37

god what a mess. Louise Elliott must have a back bone of steel, but this stupid shit must be wearing her down.

I am very pleased that there are brave (and also probably difficult as hell) women in the world like her, prepared to take a stand

Helleofabore · 31/08/2024 12:59

"But it's news items like the in the OP which make me a bit cautious & wary of having misogyny as a hate crime. It's too easily turned against women. Because ... misogyny"

Yeah. I think that we are seeing hate crime laws in a whole new light these days.
