As we're nearly at the end of the first thread, let's make sure we keep the topic current.

There have been five women now who have spoken to podcasts about the predatory behaviour of Neil Gaiman.

First thread here:

Well, whatever it is it's good to see angry Spanish words about Gaiman.

I made the mistake of reading people’s thoughts on this on Threads, and it’s absolutely disgusting how many people are comparing Gaiman with JKR.

I noticed this.
A woman who feels that other women should have single sex spaces to process sexual abuse is the same as a man who sexually assaults women?
It is absolutely absurd.

snowflakelake · 14/01/2025 14:10

I also noticed that his ex-wife was getting as much if not more criticism than him which also didn't seem balanced although less egregious.

Finally the BBC wakes up www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn01dynqx7ro

This thread dates from: 26/08/2024

The BBC have taken this long to even mention the allegations.

It's absolutely ridiculous. This thread is just under 6 months old. The BBC needs a kick up the bum.

I can't get the BBC link to work for me. Is it still live?

Yes, and it was the second thread on the topic!

The first was opened the same day as the original allegations dropped. 4th July 2024.

We evil Mumsnetters been talking about it for this long. The anti terf Redditors had also been talking about it for this long, and amazingly, for once all drawing the same conclusions about this individual at least. That Neil Gaiman was a clear and obvious abusive scumbag.

So how has it taken the BBC six months to pick up this extremely large story that ordinary members of the public have known about for all this time?

Indeed.

"Poor poor me, they're all liars."

Sure they are, Neil, sure they are. Sorry, but no. No doubt some will fall for his "I'm just a bumbling sweet gothy English fool" crap but we see you. You are a liar.

Absolute wanker. His response actually makes me angrier.

Lentilweaver · 14/01/2025 16:53

Bullshit about being ready to do the work. How about you stop picking vulnerable 20 year olds off the street to babysit your child?

crumpet · 14/01/2025 17:30

Babadookinthewardrobe · 14/01/2025 11:55

I’m also really pissed off that the lovely Terry P had the wool pulled over his eyes and associated with this lowlife. Poor Terry, he must be spinning in his grave.

About time the vile Gaiman faced a reckoning.

His association with Terry will have given him a lot of cover. Especially as he held himself up to be a sort of Terry legacy keeper.

Yes, why the vulnerable homeless 20 year old and not the experienced professional nanny?

Yes I wonder.

It's not like he's short of money, or Amanda. Mind you, she got a bit of a hammering for being a grifter for expecting fans to do/ give stuff for free to release a new album. So expecting a free nanny is probably par for the course for her

ColourByNumbers88 · 14/01/2025 17:52

Framing that rebuttal like he's broken some hearts. It's made me angrier too.

"Stayed quiet out of respect for the people sharing their stories." More like "Stayed quiet till I've been backed into a corner when mainstream media actually deemed it worthy of some coverage."

I hope more women have the courage to speak out because I'm sure there are many, many more.

WhatterySquash · 14/01/2025 17:55

Yes this is such a grim aspect of it. Gaiman has the means to hire any professional, well-trained nanny or other help of his choice. People who would have professional boundaries and know what is healthy and safe for the child, and professional contracts so they would have recourse to deal with being mistreated. Yet instead it seems to have been about lining up young, vulnerable women who were fans of AP and/or NG, were impressed with/awed by him, who had no money, who were invited into the home in an unclear situation where they were initially treated like friends as well as employees, whose "employment" was tenuous or underpaid so they didn't want to lose the opportunity – a confusing power imbalance that made it much harder for them to stand up to him.

It's also revolting how consistently the things described are about him getting what he wants and giving not one single shit about whether the women are enjoying anything, or about them not wanting to do things. He just insists they have to because that's what he "needs" sexually. That's his idea of a mutually happy relationship is it? His statement is very telling. "Huh? I didn't realise just taking whatever I wanted and not listening to women saying no was a problem!? They seemed fine with it!"

Also although it's all "whiny whiny, you all misunderstood me" there doesn't seem to be any resolve to clear his name, launching of legal action etc. Why not neil? The NYT have just demolished you with a bulldozer, if it's not true you'd sue, right?

Hermyknee · 14/01/2025 17:56

I have to skim read some of reports, like a lot of us. Somewhere I read that people are linking his characters up to him. There’s a character in Sandman for instance. In which case aren’t his own words are coming back to implicate him? Was anyone a fan and has read his works so can clarify this?

100% this

WhatterySquash · 14/01/2025 17:59

Yes absolutely sickening. "Oh dear, you adored me and I didn't love you back and that's why now you've got it in for me." The ego is astonishing.

AP has been trying not to pay people for years - it seems to be habitual to just let people do stuff for her/them because they're fans.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 14/01/2025 18:00

the reason why so many rapists vehemently deny they’ve done anything wrong is because that is what they believe. Of course some know they’re guilty but just as many truly don’t accept that what they did was rape or sexual assault. They still think that rape is only rape when it occurs between two strangers and that it is impossible to happen in any form of ‘relationship’.

I honestly don't think you can point to some words written in fiction and go 'aha! You did it!' when the women's accounts say far more in detail. Why would you need to? Sure, you can get an idea of what he thinks it's important for characters to be like, but it's a bit of an irrelevancy.

Lentilweaver · 14/01/2025 18:07

Honestly after Pelicot and the grooming gangs and now this, so thoroughly sick of male violence.
And please dont come at me protesting that your son and husband and brother are lovely. That is not the point.
