As we're nearly at the end of the first thread, let's make sure we keep the topic current.

There have been five women now who have spoken to podcasts about the predatory behaviour of Neil Gaiman.

First thread here:

Reviewed or a very careful statement of facts to confirm said podcast exists? Reads like a car insurance statement rather than a review (as she doesn't appear to have an opinion on it). Disappointed in Miranda but I expect nothing more from The Guardian.

They "reviewed" it when it first came out, in a very dismissive way as "entertainment". I think it's linked on the first thread.

CorruptedCauldron · 23/09/2024 12:32

Yes there was previously an extremely brief review, which was the first time the Guardian had even mentioned there were any sex abuse allegations against Gaiman. It was a blink and you’ll miss it paragraph, a bite-size review. This new one from Miranda is at least more detailed.

Slight derail but for comparison I looked up how Miranda reviewed the Witch Trials of JK Rowling podcast. I thought Megan Phelps-Roper was impressive and thorough in the podcast, but Miranda can’t resist a few digs. As for her thoughts on JKR, I have no idea. She says people either think JKR is really good or really bad because she’s too famous or something, and Tumblr was ‘sweet’.

Link no longer working to that guardian review

CorruptedCauldron · 24/09/2024 09:06

That is so weird @Ereshkigalangcleg - maybe they realised that was their first mention of the allegations, and that it wasn’t a good look for them to be burying a news story inside a bite-size review.

VictorianBigot · 24/09/2024 09:35

It does work, you just have to remove the last bit

Still can't see it, maybe it's my cookies or something. Still getting the error page.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/09/2024 10:07

That link worked fine in July btw.

That's weird. It doesn't work for me either when I click on it, but if I c+p this it works www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/article/2024/jul/11/hear-here-pop-culture-debate-club

The hyperlink is adding the %5B thing for some reason

VictorianBigot · 24/09/2024 10:09

It's working when I click the link on the above 10:08 message, is it working for you?

CorruptedCauldron · 24/09/2024 10:09

Yes I got it to work by copying and pasting it into my browser and removing the last bit https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/article/2024/jul/11/hear-here-pop-culture-debate-club

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/09/2024 10:10

No weirdly your link didn't but Corrupted's did. Thanks both!

No probs! Text here:

Master: The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman
Tortoise, all episodes out now
This troubling four-part series lifts the lid on two women’s allegations of sexual abuse against the author. It juxtaposes the accusers’ testimony with Gaiman’s denials and contradictory account of events (based in consensual relationships) to create a story that is head-spinning – and at points difficult to listen to. Alexi Duggins

Master: the allegations against Neil Gaiman - Tortoise

New Series Master: the allegations against Neil Gaiman Neil Gaiman is one of the world’s most successful authors. And one of the most loved. His works have been adapted for film, TV and the stage. Five women have now made allegations of sexual assault...

Thank you for keeping up the count! I don't suppose any of us thought it was going to be a permanent job.

BezMills · 25/09/2024 10:29

@notathenabutcassandra I appreciate your work, hope you're as ok as you can be. Have a doughnut (emoji) 🍩

AlwaysSometimesRarelyNever · 25/09/2024 15:06

I texted into a radio station this morning, because they were talking about Al Fayed and how it only came to light after his death and how he was hiding in plain sight etc etc.

I said Neil Gaiman is very much alive, why are you not covering that story.

The hand wringing in the media is so hypercritical.

notathenabutcassandra · 25/09/2024 21:38

86 days since allegations of sexual assault were made against Neil Gaiman, who has yet to respond.

Woman’s Hour are currently doing a segment on press coverage of rape and sexual violence. I’ve texted them.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 26/09/2024 11:12

A Tweet a couple of days ago about the dam that may be about to break from the PDiddiy revelations had a mention of Gaiman in the replies - followed by at least 2 people asking 'What's Gaiman done?!' So clearly the news is still contained to certain bubbles.

I provided them both with links to the podcast, so hopefully a few more people will see.

StainlessSteelMouse · 26/09/2024 11:54

Well if Gaiman has some protection via his relationships with the BBC and the Guardian, it's nothing compared to the protection Diddy built for himself by schmoozing the likes of Oprah and Obama.

StainlessSteelMouse · 26/09/2024 12:24

It seems the Society of Authors is quietly taking its distance from NG: Neil Gaiman removed from the Society of Authors web page : r/neilgaimanuncovered (reddit.com)

VictorianBigot · 26/09/2024 12:48

I’ve just caught up with the end of WH and I’m raging. They discussed the importance of media coverage to encourage other potential victims to come forward, and the power imbalance when it comes to celebrities and things like NDAs, as well as how there’s a tendency for the celebrity accused to be treated more kindly. They didn’t read my text, obviously, instead ending on some texts from people about how they’d met the loves of their lives 🙄 My opinion of the BBC was already very low but it’s sunk to new depths.

As an aside, I really can’t stand Anita Rani.

nauticant · 26/09/2024 13:22

I don't expect anything else from the BBC these days. I posted this link to Reddit upthread:
