"The magistrate ruled “not guilty”. In summing up how he reached his decision, he explained that to be found guilty would have a huge impact on the man’s life, and while he was sure I intended to be reliable, there was a very real possibility that as I was pregnant I was in a heightened emotional state and could not be relied on to give an accurate account."

OMG this makes me furious.
What is wrong with judges in this country and how can they be held to account?

The letter writer is so, so right, it's wrong and it's sickening, but they have this exactly right. If you're an attractive young women then society regards your safety as being entirely in your own hands- wearing something revealing- well, what do you expect if a man sees you and wants you? Walking home after dark by yourself - well, you should think of your safety and take a taxi. Had a few drinks so you're not paying absolute attention to what's happening around you- well, you know that there's sexual predators out there, you really should have stayed sober.
I'm getting old and I'm happy now to be beneath a lot of men's attentions. It's like going back in time when a young woman needed a chaperone to preserve her honour
