Whenever you may live, and whatever your views:

Brighton & Hove City Council is seeking views on the revised draft Trans Inclusion Schools Toolkit.

The Trans Inclusion Schools Toolkit is
designed to empower staff and governors in the city's schools and colleges to develop inclusive policies and practices that specifically support trans children and young people.

You can read the draft Trans Inclusion
Schools toolkit and comment here:

yourvoice.brighton-hove.gov.uk/en-GB/projects/trans-toolkit-consultation

The council asks: "Please read through the draft Trans Inclusion Schools Toolkit before sharing your views through the survey."

From the website landing page:

Draft Brighton & Hove Trans Inclusion Schools Toolkit

We have reviewed our Trans Inclusion Schools Toolkit and are seeking views on the revised draft guidance.

The Trans Inclusion Schools Toolkit is designed to empower staff and governors in the city’s schools to develop inclusive policies and practices that specifically support trans children and young people.

We recognise that trans young people may face obstacles to inclusion. Our firm belief is that they deserve the same exceptional education, equal opportunities and high-quality care as their peers. The draft updated toolkit (version 5) sets out to equip schools with the knowledge to:

  • Develop effective equality policies and practice that represent the diversity of our community.
  • Integrate opportunities for learning.
  • Prepare students for life in modern Britain.
  • Prevent prejudice and foster a welcoming environment.

While offering advice on a range of areas, the key guidance in the toolkit is to recognise that support for individual children needs to be provided on a case-by-case basis, in discussion with them and their families.

With this understanding, the toolkit establishes a framework for a comprehensive school-wide approach and outlines key areas to consider when planning support.

Have your say

Please read through the draft Brighton & Hove Trans Inclusion Schools Toolkit attached to the consultation before completing the survey.

We particularly welcome the perspective of Brighton & Hove parents with experience of gender questioning children as well as school staff and governors.

The consultation is open until Friday 11 October.

I posted about this a few weeks back, your post is better with more detail. Hope more people take the time and trouble to respond. It’s easy to come on here and moan and it’s just as easy to spend a few minutes giving feedback to the TT and the like. We all have to do our little bit, and my moaning doesn’t count! Thanks.

It's really important that as many parents (or concerned citizens) as possible, from Brighton or further afield do answer this.

There is a model response put together by PSHE Brighton:

https://pshebrighton.org/

which is here:

https://pshebrighton.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/BHCC-Trans-Inclusion-Schools-Toolkit-Consultation-PSHE-Brighton-Model-Response_-1.pdf

Which can really help with responses, though it's a guide, not a copy and paste things

Please PLEASE send a response in, Brighton council has been hiding and lying about this for years and is responsible for my own, 11 year old autistic son thinking he is a girl. This is destroying families.

safeguarding first

Everyone.

Huge amount of supporting guidance here: https://pshebrighton.org

Didn’t Brighton council try to hide lots of feedback before?

this looks like a really important thing to do I’ll respond to the survey

Thanks for this thread. I'm local'ish (work there) and hadn't seen this. Really grateful for the comprehensive model response in the pshe brighton link above.

Really hope others will complete it too. I love the place for lots of reasons but if there's anywhere that needs to give it's head a wobble on this topic, it's Brighton.

Brighton needs more than a wobble!

has anyone else contributed yet?

Reading throughs he questions they ask and the way the new guidance is laid out it's EVEN WORSE than before!!

Zahariel · 20/08/2024 10:49

Has anyone else been able to use the model response (linked above) to help with their answers?

Zahariel · 20/08/2024 10:59

It should be very clear that Brighton council are suggesting that your 14 year daughter could be sent on a school trip and share a private room with a 14 year old boy if they are "sharing a bedroom with trusted friends"

This is why we need as many parents as possible to feedback - this is not just Brighton, it is the whole country following this madness

Retiredfromthere · 20/08/2024 10:59

The questionnaire is long. The guidance is long.
The quotes about Cass are selective.
They do not say anything about gender critical views and bullying.
They do not say anything about Cass and others pointing out that there is considerable overlap between trauma, abuse, neurodiversity, depression and suicidal thoughts and gender dysphoria. So this document spends a lot of time protecting pupils who wish to transition (socially or medically). It is based on the idea that these are the most vulnerable but with no remedy offered other than affirm/agree. Its appalling. I filled it in but found myself getting so angry.
(Not in Brighton and very thankful for that. Very sorry for anyone working in a school there and the least bit GC, or even questioning).

Done

I'm going to do it today as well

Lorgar · 21/08/2024 11:32

How the hell is this supposed to work exactly?

"2.8 Single-sex schools
This guidance is equally applicable to single-sex schools, however there may need to be greater emphasis on ensuring
the safety and inclusion of trans children and young people in single sex schools. Those who transition to a different
gender from that of the school they are in (e.g., a trans girl at a boys’ school) should be allowed to remain at that school
if they wish to with discussions taking place on how to accommodate the transition within school policies and processes."
