Blind woman sprinter displaced from Paralympics

Women’s sports medals really suit men, don’t they? I have just read about a blind female runner who has been displaced from Spain’s Paralympics team by a male.

Melani Bergés Gámez, who is 90% blind, works as a primary school teacher and is a medal-winning sprinter. She runs with a cord attaching her to her running partner.

I can’t see the whole Facebook post, but it looks as if Melani’s place has been taken by Valentina Petrillo, who won medals as a male sprinter before switching to women’s events in 2020. Since then, he’s been setting new records in women’s events — what a surprise.

Another inspiring woman shouldered aside.

Petitions! It's late.

I've lost another friend for saying it.
30 years ffs, but I won't stop standing up for women.

Hairyesterdaygonetoday · 21/08/2024 13:32

I haven't been able to find anything else about it, @Lovelyview . It's sickening. There's nothing of ours that men like him won't try to steal.

I'm sorry you've lost a 30+ friendship over this. I genuinely cannot understand how anyone could look at the picture of that 50 year old man and not be upset that he is cheating his way into the Paralympics?! How can it be justified? It's madness. Solidarity with the women he has stolen places from. It's heartbreaking after all the training and years of work they have done to achieve their goals.

I do think that in many cases the logic flows like "I've performatively approved of all the previous weirdness - women's rights, gay rights, immigration, etc, and this is just another weird thing I need to claim to approve of."

In many cases we're dealing with people who genuinely don't see anything morally different between gay rights and men in women's sports. They're both unnatural, but Good People are supposed to publicly approve of unnatural things now. (Arguably the more unnatural the thing you approve of the Better you are...)

Maybe that's just unduly cynical.

Do you mean trans rights? Gay rights are completely different.

EsmaCannonball · 21/08/2024 22:13

Do the people who support this stuff, or at least quietly swallow it, never stop to wonder why it's always old or injured or third-tier sportsmen who suddenly discover their innate womanliness? Have they never questioned why it's never current Premier League footballers or seeded tennis players or Olympic medal-winning male cyclists who are struck by this particular kind of lightning?

No?! For saying this is a cheating man?

Does your former friend truly think this Spaniard is a woman?

Pieceofpurplesky · 22/08/2024 01:30

Apparently (have seen it somewhere online so don't quote me) he was the champion male runner in that category for years and only transitioned when he started losing .... going to look for the article now

A German competitor in one of Petrillo’s events, Katrin Müller-Rottgardt, has bravely spoken out.

Katrin Müller-Rottgardt, 42, told BILDthat while she believes that “everyone should live in everyday life the way they feel comfortable,” she feels that Italian sprinter Valentina Petrillo, a man previously known as Fabrizio who fathered two children, has “advantages” over female athletes on the basis of his sex.

Why a different rule for Paralympic athletes?
Are these women's feelings not as important?

More loathsome male cheats. I'm sick to death of them, and even more of all the organisations, governments and virtue-signallers who support them.

Agree

He's not blind, he's partially sighted and, I believe, he's on the record complaining about being kept out of the women's changing room.

Disabled women are much more vulnerable to and victims of sexual assault.

I was sure I had posted on this thread but my comment seems to have disappeared...strange.

No, I think Necessary’s point is that people who just want to keep up with current trends may nod along to men in women’s sports the same unthinking way they do to gay rights. Not on moral grounds, just because these are currently ‘correct’ opinions to hold.

They’re not seeing the colossal difference between same-sex attraction, which harms no one, and transgenderism, which leads to all the harm we read about here.

This is even more sickening. Those who let a man into a changing room full of vulnerable blind women should be ashamed. Total shits, the lot of them.
