Their problem - one of many - is that 'bisexual' is the the B in LGBT+. But 'bisexual' was coined after 'heterosexual' and 'homosexual' when sexual attraction was universally understood to be based on biological sex

Now attraction is supposed to be based on gender not biological sex, but there's no such word as 'bigenderal' - or not yet

Lots of people use just 'bi'. Perhaps they need to dump 'semibisexual' and stick with 'semibi'.

So really anythingsexual should be unacceptable.

But with an apparently infinite number of genders, what do you do? If everyone ends up being ‘queer’ then is queer the new straight?

I’d seen this and assumed it meant that semibisexuals were attracted to both sexes but only one gender eg attracted to biological men and women, but only men and trans men or women and trans women as it were in terms of gender presentation. It took a lot of mental gymnastics to get there, and I did immediately assume that it was a genuine article because in these modern times that level of detail, overthought and specificity seems the done thing.

It sounds like a theoretically real category which in practice (as the article I read said) doesn't actually have many people in it. Which male 'lesbians' should have a think about.

A term made up to label someone who is bisexual but homogenderal isn't helpful if it's not clear wtf it means though, as is the case with many neologisms (real or fake)

Queer definitely seems to be the new straight among the younger generation. I remember when it was a slur but language evolves I suppose.

I really enjoyed Greg Jenner misgendering the very publicly bepenised pianist Jordan Gray on his "You're dead to me" podcast on LGBTQ+ life on Germany. All the way through he keeps up the shes and hers until the very end when Greg says "let's see what he's learnt" before the quiz and it really tickled me.

The obfuscation of language. I took semibisexual to mean a gay or straight man who is only attracted to other males, or a lesbian or straight woman who is only attracted to other females.

Bisexual - attracted to both sexes. So semi bisexual - attracted to one sex. A politically correct way for a gay man to indicate not interested in transmen or for a lesbian to say not interested in transwomen.

If ‘halfbisexual’ was a thing it would essentially mean the same thing as ‘monosexual’ - which is applicable to anyone attracted only to one of the two sexes whether that be a homo or hetero attraction is lesbians, gay men and straights male or female.

That’s the thing, isn’t it? The “I wanna be in the queer glitter family” brigade, calling themselves bi when they’re not, does harm to those who genuinely are bi - people will just think they’re making it up to be “special”.
