"Sharron Davies encourages Khelif and Lin’s opponents to challenge defeats"
A sane straight reporting article that even mentions Sex Matters.
Thats the second one this week.
I'm hoping if we pressure Viner she will do some serious investigative journalism into the IOC, the Sex Matters semina posted on the other thread was eyeopening as to the extent of the IOCs control over the media.

What I don't understand is why they don't prove they're eligible to fight in the female category.
If I was being accused of cheating, which is what this is, I'd be carrying the proof of my eligibility in my bra and whipping it out every time I was accused. Wouldn't give a shit about people calling me male (although to be fair I haven't been through finding out I had a DSD and that my sex isn't what I'd believed it to be for the first years of my life, so who knows how I'd actually feel in that situation). But I'd be horrified at being labelled a cheat. The fact that they're keeping quiet is for me one of the biggest indications that we are right and they are male (oh and I have eyes)

I still think the BBC article is obfuscating. It doesn't seem to mention the specific DSD that's suspected, for instance. Still, far better than previous.

The Guardian one is suitably vague, and is still pushing the idea that the tests were carried out by the "discredited" IBA, not two independently accredited labs. So it is still highly misleading.

Me too. As well as not referring to these athletes likely DSD there are several paragraphs about a phenotypically female person who it turns out is XY. This is completely irrelevant to the athletes in the Olympics who have clearly gone through male puberty and are obviously male. The BBC are still going with “it’s ever so complicated” when it really isn’t. great they’ve quoted EH though. Perhaps it’s a shift in the right direction.

Signalbox · 09/08/2024 20:08

The Guardian article is excellent though. I had to check it wasn’t Sunday!

Hairyesterdaygonetoday · 09/08/2024 20:28

This really is wow! Though The Guardian and the BBC still have a long way to go to regain my trust.

I suspect the Guardian is publishing the occasional pro-women story to try to look balanced and persuade back some of its many lost readers. The BBC has recently been criticised in the press for its poor reporting on gender issues. Maybe senior management at both are starting to see the cost of the damage they’ve allowed transactivist staff to do.

Meanwhile, I agree, let’s celebrate every bit of good news.

From The G yesterday by Nathalie Tocci.

What a contemptible article by a journalist who is risibly uninformed about boxing. The Guardian know that's the case, it's in Comment is Free, but unless I have an error, comments have not been opened.

Again, like similar ones, you can submit a 300 word letter, which won't pass the Gender Gestapo, of course.

Interesting. We'd not have seen anything close to this in the Guardian a few years ago.

Oh I think we might have done as Hadley Freeman and Julie Blindel both used to write in The Guardian a while back

PeachyKeane · 09/08/2024 21:56

The cheek swap will reveal XX or XY. Only if there's an XY will any further testing need to be done, surely 🤔

duc748 · 09/08/2024 23:58

Might as well put this here, but one small takeaway I got from this is that The Independent is way more batshit on this than the Guardian! They have practically wetting themselves over Khelif for days now.

They can probably also test for SRY from a cheek swab. So only XY and SRY+ would need further tests.

i would have thought in reality the vast majority of athletes with DSDs already know what condition they have. If you’re a teenage girl and instead of growing boobs and getting a period your voice breaks you are probably going to the doctor. And failing that, if a female athlete isn’t menstruating I would have thought her team would want to check that out if only to check nutrition isn’t the issue

PeachyKeane · 10/08/2024 13:07

Absolutely agree, everyone knows. But when arguing with numpties on the Internet apparently no-one does.

Omlettes · 10/08/2024 16:57

Thank you for that.

I'm still battling with friends to try to get them to understand the situation. I get it completely but there's been so much misinformation by the MSM that everyone is completely confused.

SinnerBoy · 10/08/2024 20:48

Yes, the BBC and Guardian bear particular guilt for the huge amount of absolutely dishonest "reporting" on the subject.

Bit of backstory. In 2021 I think. I became suspicious of the number of hit pieces on JKR.
I googled the repeat offender 'journo', turned out he was a member of Prostasia the friendly face of MAP. Contacted the editor and had quite an interesting back n forth...
I might dig up the emails, they were very telling.

Could you share the name of the journalist please?

Noah Berlatsky, and infuriatingly the editor says he is not employed there yet they continue to commission him.

I've just looked up his reply and his specific words were:
"Mr Berlatsky isn’t a member of our staff, and in broad terms we would only be responsible for what we publish;'

IIJM that's getting a pod-people vibe here? "They walk among us", and all that.

CorruptedCauldron · 11/08/2024 11:04

FFS that article. It’s like banging your head against a brick wall. I couldn’t care less if a woman looks masculine, has big muscles, a lantern jaw, so what. I only care about fair competition. If a woman appears to be masculine or gender non-conforming, good luck to her. The only thing that matters is that women need to be able to compete with other women - biological females - and not men. And the easy, safe way to ensure this is to do a cheek swab on every competitor. Not just the butch women; the feminine ones too. Every. Single. One.

CorruptedCauldron · 11/08/2024 11:15

On a happier note, for those on Twitter, the comments under the post are scathing.
