Where am I on the scale of masculine to feminine?

This is a question in a survey I am filling out. I don't know how to answer it. Very long heavy survey, quite important nationally.

I need to say where I fit on this scale, 0 being totally masculine and 10 being totally feminine.

Well, my first thought was 7ish.

I am a woman, but I don't think of myself as feminine particularly - I don't wear woman's clothing, I don't wear make up, I have short hair, I do my own DIY....

But then I thought, well, is it asking if I am a WOMAN? if so then yes, I am 100%, so should say 10?

I might contact the organisers and ask about this question, but nor sure how to frame it.

Exhaust pipe?

it’s almost unbelievable that this utter guff has been shown in slide presentations to schools and workplaces!

Print it off and cross out the question. Write instead ”there is male/ female with nothing imbetween. How I behave and how I dress does not change that”

agree you should ask for clarification as it’s not a single line. So if I’m asked to solve a problem I may consider that I have a more masculine approach but if I’m asked whether I enjoy watching fighting I would say feminine. But I’d resent both questions as they are underpinned by stereotypes.

As a man with a mixture of "masculine" and "feminine" characteristics, I completely agree. There is not one axis of feminine/masculine, but many. Also, what is considered feminine or masculine depends on what culture we live in - in my lifetime, UK culture (in itself a huge simplification, as there are many cultural variations in the UK) has changed, so that what is expected by society of women and men has changed.

When I was young, men rarely cooked or ironed; the latter is still probably not common, but in my social circles it's no longer considered "women's work" in the same way as in the '60s. These days most self-respecting men are proud of their cooking skills. And men are not expected to be the "head of the household" any more - certainly not by their wives!

Men don't get a lot of options, do they? The 8, 9 and 10 versions appear to be identical - and only differ from 11 because he's not tucked in his shirt.

There is no scale of masculine to feminine.

Some traits are considered more masculine and some are considered more feminine, but they all vary as to mood and situation, and weather 🤷‍♀️

Not to mention varying from society to society, and at different times within the same society! Try telling an Elizabethan or Georgian dandy that swanning around in vivid silks and velvets, makeup and jewellery isn't masculine and you'd get a sword in the guts.

Tell me about it, I'm permanently in shock that the 80s were forty years ago and most of the actors from 70s, never mind 60s, series I watched are long gone!
