Will there be a daily IOC briefing this morning does anyone know?

LizzieSiddal · 03/08/2024 08:30

The Guardian can Fuck Off!

sashagabadon · 03/08/2024 08:32

I read that article. It was infuriating.
it makes no difference if someone has female on their passport or a number 2 on their ID card if they are actually male.
what a strange defence.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/08/2024 08:35

a different less linear personal biology, that may convey certain performance advantages”

I was amused by that too. "How is your personal biology, linear or less linear?"

Theeyeballsinthesky · 03/08/2024 08:36

I don’t know how Sean ingle also of the guardian who has been doing Stirling work on this and the issue of TW in sport manages to stay there

so if not it’s not the thing so many people think it is Barney, cite your evidence.

The Guardian
WickedSerious · 03/08/2024 08:37

So it's all been a terrible misunderstanding?

Where have I heard that before?

Mammillaria · 03/08/2024 08:42

a different less linear personal biology, that may convey certain performance advantages

Would these certain performance advantages be the result of having testosterone-producing testicles, male-level circulating and available testosterone and a body that has experienced complete virilisation?

Looks awfully similar to the 'certain performance advantages' men have over women. Funny that.

NewGreenDuck · 03/08/2024 09:03

I would really like to put all of the Guardian journalists in a room, with me, so I could ask this question.
' why are you so keen to widen the definition of woman to include men who think they are?' ( because a person who is male with a DSD is still male)
And then.
' why don't you understand the harm you are doing to women?' ( because they are causing harm to women)

viques · 02/08/2024 22:09

Forgot to highlight the wonderful phrase used in this piece to explain away male bodied athletes with DSD.

”a different less linear personal biology, that may convey certain performance advantages” .

I’m going to frame that piece of Olympic-level obfuscation and hang it on the wall!

Even by Guardian standards, that is magnificently crap.

menopausalmare · 03/08/2024 09:14

Another man who doesn't get it.

MagpiePi · 03/08/2024 09:17

There are urgent unresolved questions about the safety of women in sport.

So on the one hand we have the possibility (or should that be probability?) that a woman will at worst be seriously injured or killed, and at best, will ose to a cheat, and on the other we have men who might have to be told no and get hurty feelz. I can see why it is all so difficult to resolve.

UpThePankhurst · 03/08/2024 09:21

Brief pause when reality broke through the shields, but it's ok, we apologise for the glitch and now return to our normal diet of propaganda, bullshit and misogyny.

Women are fucked. We really are. We needed to raise the roof at the point men first started claiming the word 'woman', and we didn't because of being kind and assuming people spouting all this inclusivity nonsense actually meant well. They didn't.

By which I'll add, we thought when they talked about inclusivity, they actually meant it, instead of using the words to manipulate well intentioned, nice people into enabling bloody awful things.

RoyalCorgi · 03/08/2024 09:24

I’m going to frame that piece of Olympic-level obfuscation and hang it on the wall!

It's a classic. It's up there with Emperor Hirohito's "The war situation has developed, not necessarily to Japan´s advantage" after the bombing of Nagasaki.

They do understand. They all know perfectly well.

They're ashamed to admit it, hence dressing it up in vast amounts of bullshit figleaf language, but they know perfectly well.

This is not a failure to understand, this is a basic fundamental belief that women and their rights and sports and equalities and even their right to safety should not be permitted to present boundaries or barriers to males.

Igneococcus · 03/08/2024 09:42

Just how idiotic can someone be? How can you become a journalist when either your general knowledge is so poor that you don't that there is ONE male chromosome, or you are so venal that you're prepared to lie about it?

Maybe he is mistaking humans for platypuses (platypie?) which do have a crazy number of sex chromosomes.

NewGreenDuck · 03/08/2024 09:48

@UpThePankhurst I agree with you, however I would just like to make them squirm, or stutter over their responses. I think they need to be challenged on their ridiculous notions. And come to understand that they are actually creating issues.

RoyalCorgi · 03/08/2024 09:56

I don’t know how Sean ingle also of the guardian who has been doing Stirling work on this and the issue of TW in sport manages to stay there.

I'd been wondering which of them was senior, but they both appear to have the title of chief sports writer, which is weird.

Complain to IPSO here on grounds of accuracy https://www.ipso.co.uk/making-a-complaint/

The Guardian isn't regulated by IPSO. You'd have to complain to the Guardian's readers' editor.

theilltemperedclavecinist · 03/08/2024 10:10

there are obvious problems with encouraging people who have been through a testosterone-fuelled male puberty to compete in particular sporting events against people who have not.
These are hugely complex, essentially irresolvable issues

Oh dear! If only there was some way of finding out whether someone has been through male puberty!

Irresolvable my arse.

The Grain is such a shameless rag. Anything of any value that it might have to say is tarnished by being associated with it. I just associate it with misinformation these days.

I completely disagree. This article, with its carefully selected wording, could only have been written by someone who understands the science perfectly, but has ideological reasons for misrepresenting it.

ETA apologies for not noticing that you suggested venality as a possibility - I meant to respond to one of the more generic posts suggesting the guy is just ignorant.

TheCrenchinglyMcQuaffenBrothers · 03/08/2024 15:51

largely misunderstood event of these Olympics
Wow, what an insufferable pillock. No, we understand perfectly.

Is this even a trans issue, as so many seem to have assumed?
No, it isn't. And no, they haven't

Journalistic integrity is not what it used to be.

"You can not hope to bribe or twist,
Thank God, the British journalist.
But seeing what the man will do
Unbribed, there's no occasion to."

Humbert Wolfe, around 1930.
