Green Party supporting puberty blockers in children - do you have a moment to email Sian Berry and Carla Denyer?

MalcadorTheSigillite · 22/07/2024 12:49

Sian Berry and Carl Denyer released a letter they sent to Wes Streeting a few days ago here:

https://sianberry.org.uk/2024/07/19/my-letter-with-carla-denyer-to-wes-streeting-about-puberty-blockers/

Basically - let kids have anything they like.

I have just written to Sian (she is my MP) You can write to any MP you like, even if they are not your own. I CC'd Carla on this email.

[email protected]

I broadly asked :

That I fully support trans rights

that it is clearly unethical to give children drugs that are not proven to work, through multiple studies

that I fully support the health secretaries permanent ban on puberty blockers under all circumstances

Ask why the green party asks us to "follow the science" on climate change, but not the science on gender dysphoria and treatments

Feel free to write your own, chat GPT does a greta job with a few pointers.

My letter with Carla Denyer to Wes Streeting about puberty blockers - Siân Berry MP

Today, Carla Denyer MP and I wrote to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting, expressing our serious concerns about his recent statement on puberty blockers. Trans young people need support, not to have their healthcare used a...

Thanks for this, will do.
I have Denyers mobile number maybe I should text her...

Talking of dangerous technologies please dont encourage the use of Chat GP.

Anyway you really dont need it because any letter to your MP or any member of parliment should be as short and concise as possible.

They simply do not have time to wade through long letters and they are more likely to get ignored.
Something punchy plus relevant links to prove your case ie Cass report passage or better yet, medical data on the side effects.

"Why does the Green Party ask us to "follow the science" on climate change, but not the science on Puberty Blockers?
In pushing PB the GP is participating in a medical scandal against children."

ScrollingLeaves · 22/07/2024 17:23

It is so ungreen to stunt and distort the growth of a living organism with chemicals. They would not do it to a tree, so why a child? How can they not see it?

Jjiillkkf · 22/07/2024 17:40

The problem is they don't trust this particular science, for very similar reasons to those who don't trust the science on climate change

Omlettes · 22/07/2024 17:55

@Jjiillkkf Knowing the GP the problem is they likely havent read the Cass Report, just the criticism.
They are very chaotic and slow and there is a lot of sexism in the party.
Denyer herself is a 'head girl' and is very ambitious, especially in terms of keeping up with what she perceives as the winning ticket or the current trend.
She is neither a questioner or someone who sees the big picture. More middle management.
And realistically the GP leaders dont have much power besides backroom deals.

InvisibleBuffy · 22/07/2024 18:11

Medical decisions are for patients and doctors, not politicians

They've got some fucking front posting that. Quite, Carla, quite.
And which politicians are implementing advice from Dr Cass and which are calling for it to be ignored? Not enough eye rolls in the world for this.

Exactly the sort of thing to include I think, it's a clear and obvious flaw in their reasoning, the more of us that tell them, the better (I am an ex GP member, thanks to their madness)

The Green Party are doing extremely well in local government.

Oddly enough, the Green/Labour coalition here is recommending more building on what is Green Belt farmland.

I'm beginning to wonder if they themselves know what they are actually about.

MalcadorTheSigillite · 23/07/2024 09:46

@Butwhybecause "extremely well" is an extreme stretch, they have 4.5% of seats and the one place where they took a whole council, Brighton, they were immediately thrown out at the next election for being awful.

Source, I live there.

Carla Denyer appears to have got a lot of criticism from her supporters online for congratulating Biden. They think she "endorsed genocide". She had to hastily put out a clarification.

ValerieDoonican · 23/07/2024 10:05

Sadly the GP is small enough to easily get taken over by woker-than-thou types and is now at the point of attracting their followers who have heard LOJ dismiss Starmer's labour as hopelessly right wing.

It's the new home for disenchanted Corbynistas (and thus, now only a former home for a leftish liberal environmentalist like me)

And @Ereshkigalangcleg points out, Denyer has to answer to these types because they are fanatically online with black-and-white thinking . I mean she may or may not sincerely hold these views (suspect Sian B does), but Denyer probably has little headspace to consider the issues in peace, given the constant eye over her shoulder in case OJ & co get noisily aereated over another mild thought crime.

I wonder what the somewhat GC green Adrian chap in Norfolk thinks of this, and whether he will get quite the same pushback if he strays from the Correct Line eg on puberty blockers.

They seem to be entering into coalitions which gives them more power.

They are the largest party on Bristol Council, but with not quite enough members for a majority.

They have 4.5% of council seats. They aren't doing well. Bristol is an outlier.

Carla Denyer took a Bristol seat from Thangham Debbonaire, who was a good constituency MP but not well treated by Corbyn when he was party leader.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/07/2024 10:16

Is he? What have I missed, I didn't know.

ValerieDoonican · 23/07/2024 10:19

Further to the above, GP co-leader Adrian Ramsay tweeted something similar about Biden and got some pushback too but nothing like as much and has not felt the need to "explain himself". But then he is a nature-loving nimby in naice rural Norfolk not MP in umm - youthful - Bristol.

ValerieDoonican · 23/07/2024 10:19

As well, obviously, as being a bloke

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/07/2024 10:21

Has he said something GCish before?

ValerieDoonican · 23/07/2024 11:21

I believe he has but don't have ref to hand - will have a look

ValerieDoonican · 23/07/2024 11:33

Pretty sure this is what I was recalling -tweeted by Darren Johnson who describes himself as "Former Green politician (the anti puberty blocker sort)"

Unfortunately the original programme is no longer online (I daresay b/c more than 4 weeks ago) but I haven't noticed him being subjected.to a witchhunt (not that I necessarily would have, but still.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/07/2024 11:49

Oh wow, yes that is significant. So the co leaders don't agree on these issues? Ramsay is at least in theory putting himself at risk of disciplinary procedures, as Green Party policy is self ID in all cases. If you watch the public Green Women Declaration webinars (not a member but I'm close to women who are), you can see how GC women and supportive men (including Darren here) are allegedly being picked off one by one with complaints about breaching this policy. All available here, and it's worth signing up to their mailing list.

greenwomensdeclaration.uk/

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/07/2024 11:51

From the website:

At least 17 signatories to the Green Women’s Declaration have now been expelled or suspended, mirroring the actions of the Scottish Green Party who expelled 14 members for signing our sister declaration.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/07/2024 11:55

Natalie Bird has won her case against the Lib Dems as they have admitted their discrimination against her based on the Equality Act and aren't defending their actions, so it will be interesting to see what the Greens do if and when some of the other cases in the pipeline come to court.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 23/07/2024 11:56

Natalie Bird thread:

Times 'Lib Dem trans activists ‘hounded’ abuse victim (Natalie Bird)''.Article refers to Zoe O'Connell & Sarah Brown www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3399104-Times-Lib-Dem-trans-activists-hounded-abuse-victim-Natalie-Bird-Article-refers-to-Zoe-OConnell-Sarah-Brown

ValerieDoonican · 23/07/2024 14:41

Ugh poor Natalie Bird. Really glad ahe won her case but fgs.

I might start following harrop on twix - I hope the extremists in the GP will be discouraged from trying to get him disciplined/ expelled - on the other hand if they try and fail, very publicly, that might be a good outcome all round...
