On the News Agents:

Does anyone want to tell her?

She will soon have an email address as a member of the HoL. Any individual can then let her know their views on the GRA.

You think she reads her emails?

Maybe not but we have to try.

EasternStandard · 19/07/2024 20:54

They don’t hear anything from women

Same old response

WickedSerious · 19/07/2024 20:56

You don't hear much at all when you have your head stuck up your arse.

yep. one of the great mysteries of British public life of recent times is why that was not an instant career ender I have no idea. For comparison anyone here recall Dr. Raj Persaud? Tv psychologist until it turns out some aspects of his academic papers were plagiarised. Gone, forever, overnight. Darling Harriet, nonce apologist, not so much.

Giggorata · 19/07/2024 21:02

Couldn't agree more, not interested in anything that PIE supporter has to say.

ResisterOfTwaddleRex · 19/07/2024 21:19

Harman. PIE. Newsnight Feb 2014

And yet she was still elevated to the Lords. Why? In whose interest was that?

BunfightBetty · 19/07/2024 21:23

You need to get your ears tested then, love. Open ears. Engage brain.

Toseland · 19/07/2024 21:50

REPEAL THE FUCKING GRA!

southbiscay · 19/07/2024 21:58

She looks remarkable for 73, I'll give her that.
What I did find interesting is that in the clip from the News Agents (in the OP) Harman is absolutely towing the Government line which also coincides with the recently released EHRC guidance. Apart from a couple of wild cards like Zarah Sultana, who I think may well be pulled back into line, Labour are speaking with a single voice on this.

It could be a lot worse.

The really big issues are what they propose to do about making GRCs easier to get and what the Supreme Court decides on FWS after the November case is heard.

But all that aside, it is past time to start bringing demands for a repeal of the GRA into the general conversation. And let Harriet know about it. Perhaps we can find a man to say it to her?

To be fair it's hard to hear when you have your fingers in your ears and you're la-la-la-ing at the top of your voice.

DelilahBucket · 19/07/2024 22:07

To be honest, on election night, my local newly elected MP declared the spoiled votes as "mostly anti trans". I was working in a neutral role so had to bite my tongue and not correct him with "no they are pro women not anti trans and you aren't listening to the people you moron" 🙄

Onetransphobicmother · 20/07/2024 15:06

Alucard55 · 19/07/2024 17:53

I'll keep on at it regardless. I know I can do very little about this issue but I'll do what I can.

Open to ideas suggestions?

Can we organize a joint letter/email to Harriet Harman?

We could do a suffragette flash mob outside the house of commons. With a big Harriet Harman effigy to burn on College Green. She might claim she still didn't hear a thing, but she's not claimed to be blind

Sausagenbacon · 20/07/2024 15:12

I've just listened to the Newsagents podcast.
They let her of lightly on PIE i.e. didn't mentioned it
My problem is with HH - even apart from Gender Issues - is that I can't bear her. She speaks about Women as though, somehow, she represents me. She doesn't.

Should we bring merkins? Asking for a friend.

I don't know the answer. The interns are all recent PPE grads. They are unpaid so they have to live in London. In order to live in London they need rich families. In order to intern for Harriet Harman their rich family would have to be the proverbial Champagne Socialists. So.

This is it really. It's a democracy in name only.

On my most cynical days I think we're going to have to wait until all the transed kids from these families grow up and realise what has been done to them for this all to end.

You're not getting an invite unless you do

Shortshriftandlethal · 20/07/2024 15:57

If she's not heard anyone say it ( repeal the GRA), what does she bring it up for discussion?

That's an excellent point! Perhaps Harriet WANTS us to talk about it more!

Merkins and snacks.

I think because she was pointing out that as the law stands, women comprise born women and 'women who have transitioned and have a GRC'. Harriet thinks this is a reasonable compromise. Either she doesn't understand that transitioning can be as superficial as putting on a bit of lippy and asking your friends to call you Tiffany, or she doesn't care.

southbiscay · 20/07/2024 19:29

I wouldn't be surprised if not mentioning PIE is a condition of her appearing. Although I think Lewis didn't do too badly on the gender stuff, I do think he could have asked a few more searching questions.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/07/2024 20:09

I can't stand The News Agents.

Boudiccaofsteel · 20/07/2024 20:31

The GRA needs to go. No society should support legislation which enshrined a lie in law and allows official documents to be falsified. I can only think of one circumstance where it is every necessary to issue a false id: witness protection or for the security services where a matter of national security is at stake authorised at the highest levels
