Microsoft decides diversity ‘no longer business critical’

The tide seems to be turning and companies are cutting down on DEI jobs thanks to over zealous HR DEI personnel pushing their own agenda: "As well as cutting costs, companies are reconsidering their DEI plans amid fears that some diversity chiefs are silencing anyone with an opposing view and taking HR matters into their own hands" (Stonewall and the Fran Itkoff case also mentioned towards the end of the article):

Diversity, (as it should be, not the warped TQ+ nonsense) is important in the workplace. It's the hijack by the T & fetishists that have made it an issue

RedToothBrush · 17/07/2024 18:39

Someone is beginning to realise outsourcing this is liable to undermine diversity, lead to resentment and possibly give you a bunch of zealots who misquote the law and leave you legally vulnerable...

Interesting!

I've said this before on abother thread.

The whole DEI industry hinges on the myth that if you make employees less prejudiced, then the workplace will become more diverse.

Eg: nag people to stop using microaggressions, or accuse them that they're subconsciously biased, and they'll spontaneously hire people from different backgrounds.

Really, it is overwhelmingly obvious that causality is the other way around.

Hire enough different people of different beliefs and backgrounds (eg using "blind" methods), and your workforce will become less prejudiced, gradually and organically.

DEI people: please don't sit us down for hours accusing us of being prejudiced. It's rude, unfalsifiable, and counterproductive.

"Diversity consultants expect a similar trend to take place in the UK. Simon Fanshawe, who was one of six activists to set up LGBT charity Stonewall, said in May that he had witnessed a shift in attitude among employers over the role that diversity schemes should have in corporate Britain.
“It seemed self-evidently right [in the past] but now they’re saying, ‘Actually, I’m not convinced that a high street retailer should take a position on anti-conversion therapy,’” he said. “‘Because what’s that got to do with the price of beans?’”

I like it, common sense is on it's way back.

I can't read this all but I noticed it dates from May - would labour reverse these plans to scrap EDI roles?

FKAT · 17/07/2024 19:38

I'd recommend following Tanya De Grunwald on LinkedIn - she is a DEI specialist who is highly critical of current DEI practice.

I agree. In my experience all the really over zealous training about micro aggressions and lots of different gender identities and ‘be kind’ stuff just seems to alienate a large number of people who then feel too afraid of the very vocal ‘righteous’ brigade to even ask questions. If people are afraid of even discussing issues because they’re worried they’ll be cast out, I don’t see how that makes people more open or able to overcome any genuine prejudices or misunderstandings people might hold, but also risks creating barriers between employees out of fear of saying or doing the wrong thing.

I'm not sure why the link appeared, I was just aiming to paste from the link at the top.
Hopefully Labour won't reverse the trend because they're looking to save money.

FKAT · 17/07/2024 19:41

I'm not seeing DEI engage with actual issues. For example, NHS DEI programmes seem mainly concerned with rainbow badges and not, say, the 5 fold risk of maternal mortality in black women.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/07/2024 19:55

I wonder which is easier to do.

Yeah, quite

i stuck my head above the parapet recently on this issue.

local school has spent ££££ on a pointless pride branding exercise but still can’t manage to set aside one bloody broom cupboard to make a quiet room for kids with chronic medical conditions to have a bit of privacy for 20 mins.
