Not Badenoch. Wonder why.
Don't know much about Davies except she is in favour of banning conversion therapy.

I wonder if Sunak thinks the hard line on trans issues has backfired at the ballot box?

Conversion therapy

I should imagine Kemi will have a more senior role, and will be able to oversee and brief her successor on Women's and Equalities. Victoria Atkins too, is one to watch out for.

Shortshriftandlethal · 08/07/2024 20:17

Kemi Badenoch is the new shadow minister for Levelling up, Housing and Communities, and Victoria Atkins is shadow minister for Health and Social Care ( she's in the right place to follow through on the findings of the Cass Review).

That's an unusual pick for Kemi Badenoch.......

She sounds nice - having a divorced mum doing the women's and Equalities shadow will be helpful I think.

So kemi is shadowing Angela rayner’s dept

motheronthedancefloor · 08/07/2024 20:53

the shadow cabinet will change when the new leader is in place though which will be maybe 2-3 months from now.

CassieMaddox · 08/07/2024 20:54

Yes, except Ange is also being shadowed by Oliver Dowden. She needs two people to shadow her brief 😉

I do wonder if someone thinks Kemi gets too much air time as women's minister and wants her a bit quieter to help stop Kemi getting the leadership job. They will form ranks against her, the wets who don't like to think/talk about distasteful stuff like rapists in women's prisons. I've nothing against Mims Davies but Kemi was doing a great job holding Labour to account on this.

OvaHere · 08/07/2024 21:05

Prior to the election you insisted the Conservatives held the same view as Labour.

CassieMaddox · 08/07/2024 21:06

Kemi should have been doing a great job delivering her brief, when she was part of the Government in power, not holding the opposition to account 😂

Shame she missed the opportunity. Just part of the reason I can't stand her.

They did, they just pretended they didn't to win votes. Didn't work because people aren't stupid.

Yeah, so not stupid that a whole 33.7% of those who voted actually voted Labour.

UpThePankhurst · 08/07/2024 21:31

Never anything to do with women's rights or the furthering of them, just more snide attacks on women.

Bored now.

I thought Pat Mcfadden had got duchy of Lancaster.

It means Kemi is up against Angela Rayner which should be fun.
Damien Hinds has got Education and he seems sound. And Victoria Atkins has Health.
Not impressed by Mims Davies but maybe she's developed, but then she's only up against Dodds.
It's all very temporary.

Obviouslynotallthere · 08/07/2024 21:35

She been the mp for my area for years. I honestly don't think she has done anything ever. Just turns up for the photos

CassieMaddox · 08/07/2024 21:36

Yes, it will be interesting how it all shakes down.

But the Harman and Dodds threads are not snide attacks on women?

None of this matters there will be a new leader in a few weeks and it will all change again

Yes, and Angela Rayner is the new deputy leader.......Maybe an indication of Kemi's future role after Sunak steps down?

I suspect not entirely...I think Hunt will most likely stay on as shadow chancellor, and Atkins at Health.....as just a couple of examples.

Why is she no longer women and Equalities? It seems significant to me. We will have to wait and see what Davies position is, but it seems to me like their manifesto pledge regarding the eq a is dead.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 09/07/2024 09:11

Of course their manifesto pledge regarding the eq a is dead. They didn't get voted in so their manifesto is dead completely. They aren't in a position to do anything

Shortshriftandlethal · 09/07/2024 09:28

Women and Equalities was a subsidiary role that Kemi took on alongside her 'main' role as Secretary of State for Business. I imagine going forward she'll be in line for another major role, maybe leader or deputy leader or maybe Shadow Home Secretary. We'll see.

CassieMaddox · 09/07/2024 09:48

I read somewhere that part of the reason Sunak is staying for a bit is to see how various people perform in opposition. Maybe they have shuffled badenoch to see how she does?
