Coordinating spoilt ballots

I know there is a thread about have you spoilt your ballot but this is slightly different.

I'm trying to hold my nose and vote for someone but there is not a single potential MP in my constituency who does not disgust me. I don't want to vote Reform or someone as a protest as it might be seen that they have more support than they do. So the liklihood is that I will spoil my vote.

I know spoilt votes only really get looked at if there is a huge number or if the vote is close. But just in case I was wondering if it is worth having the same thing written on all of them to show that it is a massive issue that is losing them votes. What would you suggest (if you think it is a good idea).
Respect my sex if you want my X is a good one but is it the best?

maybe I will do an XX instead of an X, plus my sticker

If the XX is in a box I think there's a high chance of it being counted as a vote.

MoiraPose · 04/07/2024 17:29

I've just done mine, put multiple lines straight through all the boxes and then massive scribbles across them. I then went with "woman = adult human female", "Labour Losing Women", "respect my sex if you want my X" and "I stand with JK Rowling". Thought I'd cover the whole sheet!

DuesToTheDirt · 04/07/2024 17:33

I went for "Left wing adult human female."

VictorianBigot · 04/07/2024 17:51

After much deliberation I decided to spoil. I put:

Protect women’s spaces
Protect children’s bodies
No suitable candidate.

I felt very sad leaving the polling station. What a sorry state of affairs.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 04/07/2024 17:52

Dinosaur woman and her dinosaur friend did it.

Damn, reading back I wish I’d taken Suffragette sharpies.

OMG that’s hilarious. Especially the video, bemused bystander expressions and all.

CriticalCondition · 04/07/2024 17:58

Brilliant! I wish I'd thought of that. I have access to one of those dinosaur suits although I guess the effect would have been slightly spoiled by having to deflate myself for the ID check. 😁

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 04/07/2024 18:02

There's a thought. How do they keep the suits inflated? Have they got battery powered fans?

CriticalCondition · 04/07/2024 18:07

I can't remember. I did try it on once but it was a long time ago. It felt great being so BIG but weird to have my 'head' brushing the ceiling.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 04/07/2024 18:10

I'd imagine you'd have felt weird shrinking again after taking it off. Must see if I can try one out some time.

Well I did it! Had a bit of a wobble earlier so checked some online articles about my candidate and seeing them giving an award at Pink News confirmed it for me. Put 3 stickers on my ballot paper. Felt a bit tearful when I walked out of the polling station tbh. However, its a safe Labour seat so it won't affect the vote, I did it for me.

Well done everyone! X

Me too!
And I met a teacher on the way in who said she was thinking about doing the same given the safe seat and smug complacency of our Labour candidate.
I got a response to an email about conversion therapy yesterday that Id sent 2 weeks before from a handmaiden that clarified once and for all that they either dont understand whats at stake, or dont care.

Ramblingnamechanger · 04/07/2024 19:09

Great thread. Are you keeping a record of the numbers here OP. Seems as though the campaign is rolling along quite nicely. We have a voice. Thank you to everyone who has been angry enough to do this.

Appalonia · 04/07/2024 19:39

Sarah Phillimore has posted on TwiX that she's spoiled her ballot so we're in good company!😁

radiatorbed · 04/07/2024 19:42

I did this today and was sad but didn't feel I could vote. I left a message too.

murasaki · 04/07/2024 19:48

I spoiled mine. I put an x for both labour and green and wrote they don't know what a woman is in both.

I wavered for quite a while in the booth, then just did it as I couldn't do anything else with good conscience. I'm not happy, but more happy than with any of other options, we had no women's party or independents, just the 5.

It is sad, isn’t it? 7 candidates in my constituency and I couldn’t enthusiastically vote for any of them.

I know the sitting Labour MP a little, and I know he’s been fully brought up to speed on the issues by a number of local, vocal, terves (some of whom have known him since he was born!) but he’s a party-line politician who’ll be picking the splinters of this debate out of his arse for the next decade.

EdithStourton · 04/07/2024 20:48

As for the time it took to write, I was fractionally ahead of someone I know, and came out just behind him and we had a chat about how crap all the options were as we walked down the hill.

JuneFTW · 04/07/2024 21:06

I spoiled mine tonight too, in suffragette colours. Bit annoyed with the smug condescending messages on some of the threads about how much of a waste it is, those women died in vain etc. I always think on my way to the polls about what other women gave so I could vote, AND I'm not going to give my precious vote to someone who is going to sacrifice the rights of my daughters and their daughters.

There are some horrible posts about those of us who spoiled our papers. I agree with every word you say.

Appalonia · 04/07/2024 21:09

I think feeling sad and conflicted is an entirely normal, human reaction to bring put.in an impossible situation. We all want to vote, we want change, many of us are left wing and it's deeply depressing to not have trust that the Left will support us. Sadly, we've seen too much evidence not only in the UK but also America and Canada, that due to ideological capture, the Left have enacted policies which have had catastrophic effects on women.

I'm sure there've always been a fair few cock'n'balls on ballot papers, maybe more this time. I'm sure no-one has a fit of the vapours about it, though.

I was just referring to what a previous poster had said about their experience.

Sorry having trouble editing. It was actually on another spoilt ballot thread where someone said “As a broad minded female count supervisor I hate the cock and balls drawn in a paper just have an image of a very nasty perverted man doing it.”

I doubt much if any of what’s being described here would have that issue, just thought it was an interesting perspective.
