I keep on wondering (back and forth) whether I should a) trust Labour to sort this mess - answer is in the 'Hell, No!' camp atm and b) whether I should prioritise this one issue that I feel is very very important. Is this a question that only affects those that are comfortable and not relying on public services to a great extent? Does this arise from my own (relative) privilege?
I have been feeling for some time that this answer is No also. Its not only that it makes me mad as heck, its also affecting many people's experiences in hospitals, schools, prison, sports, employment, marriage, parenting, academia, the arts, freedom to speak without being accused of hate and shut down, This article (linked within another thread here - sorry can't find now so thanks to that PP) is absolutely barking mad. Its about the impact on Nick Durie of LivingRent of Queer Politics, which appear to have taken a hold in social housing in Glasgow. At one level its the usual employers bullying and harassing. However, having worked in the charitable and public sectors, which are very 'be kind' places to work which also have the task of protecting the most vulnerable and speaking up for them, it shows what happens when gender politicians get control. Its terrifying as that is the one issue that they care about. If we don't trust them to put gender politics first what will happen.
The financial and social costs of propping up genderwoo in all levels of government will affect all aspects of life for all of us. Still no idea who to vote for but I hope hope hope that whatever government we get will have listened and learned from this election its a powerful message.
Remember that Dawn Butler wanted to report Mumsnet to the police not that long ago.
