it's even a rainbow snake … though I have no doubt that Stonewall insisting it should become a ‘rainbow with chevrons’ snake.

‘Male’ Brazilian rainbow boa produces 14 baby snakes in ‘miracle birth’

Misidentified reptile Ronaldo had not been in contact with any other snakes for at least nine years

This happens occasionally - it isn't news

KnickerlessParsons · 25/06/2024 14:50

There was a donkey identifying as an elk on the news the other day, living his best life - fair play to him!

Roundeartheratchriatmas · 25/06/2024 14:50

Pathogenesis is a recorded occurrence in reptiles and some fish.

The mother is female and so will the offspring be as they are genetically identical - ie clones.

It’s nothing new.

Chersfrozenface · 25/06/2024 14:52

So a female snake mistakenly thought male by zoo workers.

Giving birth by parthogenesis, a known process in reptiles.

Slightly interesting. Not earth-shattering.

FrancescaContini · 25/06/2024 14:55

My friend thought her cat was male until it gave birth. Then she realised it was female.

It's funny because you just know the hard of thinking will try to use this.

Look look look a different species can do this so that means humans can too.

Or something.

I don't follow their logic but it genuinely seems to make sense to them as an argument about the nature of the human species. I read about some other species that can change sex/regrow limbs/ reproduce asexually/ breathe underwater/ freeze to death and revive in the spring so obviously that means humans can too...

Spiders can produce silk but I can't swing across anything I shoot out of my backside.

Circumferences · 25/06/2024 15:09

There's no mention of "non-binary" or gender identities in the article at all.

The zoo says "we thought it was a he but now we know it's a she" that's it.

Bit of a stretch to link this to sex/gender/feminism.

It self evidently is news as it’s been reported in a newspaper.

Why has this story annoyed you? It isn’t saying the snake is trans or non binary, it’s been misidentified which the article makes very clear.

I bet it'll end up as the centrepiece of the next 'queering nature' type event at the Natural History Museum or Kew Gardens - both of which love using obscure organisms we haven't shared a common ancestor with for millennia as part of their queer programming.

My backside does not have magical powers either Incomplete!

Isn't this the well known phenomenon 'explaining' how Jurassic park dinosaurs managed to lay eggs despite there only being one sex? Something to do with using frog DNA to fill in the gaps.

Shame human beings aren't reptiles, otherwise this might be an argument.

I wonder how that would even work.

Dinosaurs were reptiles, frogs are amphibians. Not even the same class.

Nellieinthebarn · 25/06/2024 15:35

Like the trans women are women brigade, one has to suspend ones disbelief! Sadly TWAW is more dangerous than the odd velociraptor.

Redberies · 25/06/2024 15:38

This is NOT non-binary Hmm

It is simply explained in the article itself: "a natural form of asexual reproduction in which embryos develop without fertilisation.
It is common in plants and some animals"

Redberies · 25/06/2024 15:38

And it clearly doesn't apply to human beings

My friend thought her cat was male until it gave birth. Then she realised it was female.

Didn’t Mavis Riley of Coronation Street think her budgie was a boy and called him Harry. Later found out he was a she and she became Harriet.

Now I’m humming Lou Reed’s Take a Walk on The Wildside.

HereForTheFreeLunch · 25/06/2024 15:51

Oh yes! I had one of those male cats that give birth. A medical marvel I tell ya. And totally proves the trans rainbow spectrum.

Nothing to do with my mum's dodgy eyesight. Now there's an example of someone assigning the wrong sex at birth.

lcakethereforeIam · 25/06/2024 15:57

Boas give birth to live young, they don't lay eggs. Does not make them mammals.

Honestly, poor snake. Being misgendered all these years 😟.

I was given a pair of two female guinea pigs as a child. Or so ww thought. Cue endless fun trying to find adoptive parents.
