To start, what examples have you found where queer theory (and other critical theories) have said that constitutes violence?

  1. Microaggressions (e.g. asking the "wrong kind of questions") https://thelinknewspaper.ca/article/microaggressions-are-a-form-of-violence
  2. Censorship ("Censorship is an expression of violence – towards thought, ideas, and, in the words of Alfred Stieglitz, the “vital expression of the self”. Violence has no place against the self, and no place in art.") https://www.change.org/p/protect-free-speech-petition-to-peter-schaufuss-st-stephen-s-church
  3. Misgendering https://www.campusreform.org/article/misgendering-is-an-act-of-violence-university-argues-/23354
  4. Silence https://www.allyenergy.com/blog/white-silence-is-violence

And what do you think should be added to the list, and why?

  1. Pineapple on pizza: Many people openly dislike the idea of adding pineapple to pizza. Pineapples also contain enzymes which tenderize meat, and could constitute a form of low-level violence as the enzymes have a digestive effect in the mouth. Additionally, the imagery of a pineapple shape is quite spiky and therefore could be interpreted as a hostile fruit (unlike the peach, which is fuzzy and therefore a much kinder offering).
  2. Hockey socks and birkenstock sandals being worn at the same time: A lot of people find a socks and sandals combination jarring and this may make them feel unsafe. You are encouraged to avoid hockey socks (specifically the white ones with red or blue striping at the top) with brown birkenstock sandals as this is the most aggressive combination.

Oh, the Grauniad - its nickname derives from its long history of violence against correct spellings. I always thought it was sloppiness and lack of basic proofreading but now I realise it's been trying to queer the language for decades.Shock

And now we have the violence inflicted by autocorrect when it insists on mangling words it's ignorant of, or capitalising words and phrases it shouldn't, I think mine has given up on doing this to 'male', at least but WTF is it doing when I want a Quick Look at something?

History is violence. Reminding someone of the past is not acceptable. Even if it's their own past. It is only acceptable if it is rewritten to suit a modern agenda and not reflect the past.

Mirrors and photos without a lens filter are violence. I mean it's all about passing so reminders that you don't pass are not acceptable.

Independent reports and independent scientific research without bias are violence. Cass Review anyone?

Ethics are violence. Nuff said.

Foreign languages with gendered nouns are violence. How very dare someone assume the gender of a table.

Foreign languages without gendered pronouns are violence. How very dare someone take away your ability to shrove your gender identity down everyone else's throats.

Haha, you've reminded me of the Spanish for non-binary 😂

Snerk.

The Italian for "a non-binary person" is "una persona non binaria".

And you have of course Eliot Sumner "l'attrice britannica non binaria".

😂😂😂

I am pretty sure pineapples are queer, they are some sort of polygamous symbol.

Pineapples can reproduce asexually! So they're queer asexuals

“Cheer up!”

Fuck off 🤬

That, along with the likes of 'smile, it may never happen' are for sure incitements to violence.

(Obviously, when I say 'violence' I mean the woman thus addressed eyerolling or ignoring, or other forms of noncompliance with the directive)
