What are Party of Women up to? Not heard anything.

Obviously there's the hustings debate going on here, but I'm in a PoW constituency and have not heard anything from or about them other than here. I was hoping they would get some press coverage or at least a leaflet drop. Maybe they've decided my postcode is too entrenched in Labour/Green/pro-trans? I'm politically homeless but would happily vote for women's rights.

This is their list of candidates

Having said something similar on another thread about PoW silence, I got a leaflet through the post this morning. Same info as on the website but at least it will be under other people's noses. I don't know of any hustings here at all.

Actually thinking about it, JKR has done my locl candidate a huge favour, raising the profile of women's rights on the day her leaflet lands. Money couldn't buy that kind of publicity for her issue!

Given the candidates are mainly self funded you need to factor in the cost of leaflets for one thing. Then they would have had to design leaflets - remember most of these women have made a fairly quick decision to stand, it’s not like they had been thinking about it for years unlike other candidates. The leaflets have to be agreed by the post office as suitable. Finally they need to find a firm to print them, which isn’t as straightforward as you might think. So if you get one leaflet from a PoW candidate they have done remarkably well.

You could always volunteer your services to your candidate and offer to hand deliver flyers or speak to people in town centres.

Crouton19 · 22/06/2024 18:25

Have you donated to your candidate so they can get leaflets printed?

NoWordForFluffy · 22/06/2024 18:27

It apparently costs about £3k to get 50k or so leaflets printed. Many candidates don't have that kind of money, sadly. Even though you get free postage for one mail out to your entire constituency, that doesn't help if you can't afford the leaflet.

Also, some printers don't want to be named on PoW leaflets.

There are some updates on this thread, as a way of keeping info in one place.

And on there there is an appeal direct from one of the volunteers at PoW, that they need much more help.

So as suggested up thread, it may be done to you as much as the indvidual in your constituency to help get the information out.

have your tried contacting whoever it is directly?

Party of Women has 16 candidates standing for election on 4 July 2024 | Mumsnet

1 ... Lisa Morgan ... Barrow and Furness 2 ... Julia Maria Long ... Bexhill and Battle 3 ... Kellie-Jay Keen ... Bristol Central 4 ... Catherine Brigg...

Sorry this isn't personal to OP, but generally, given tha mumsnet and therefore FWR is regularly monitored by google etc., its worth thinking about what might seem like a snappy title within the FWR circle, when reproduced via internet searches can take on another meaning.

ie for instance (not saying its true) your candidate may have had some personal issues happen, but doesn't mean nothing is happening.

But is just the sort of "information" that TRAs will then quote.

But equally it is nice to think up thread titles that make sure Starmer etc., are put in the correct context!

Redshoeblueshoe · 22/06/2024 19:09

I've seen Julia Long on Twitter today, she's been out canvassing. Where I live there are 7 people standing, I have only had a leaflet from the Workers Party

IwantToRetire · 22/06/2024 19:19

I am not sure about electioneering rules but presumably any of us could copy the PoW logo and add the name of whoever your local candidate is and do a bit of leafleting. Or even stickering?

and

I too have only had one leaflet through my door 5/6 candidates and it was from the Tories. Who dont have a chance in the constituency I live in which is a Labour stronghold.

I suspect it is only in swing constituencies that people actually go out leafleting and knocking on doors.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/06/2024 19:40

There's very specific information needed on leaflets for GEs. If anything went out not complying with those rules, it could leave them in hot water.

Thanks - good to know before doing anything that might compromise PoW electioneering.

JanesLittleGirl · 22/06/2024 22:05

There isn't a POW candidate in my constituency. I have made a central contribution. They get to use it however they want.

SummerIsHot · 01/07/2024 20:21

A lot of the candidates had delays in getting their leaflets, several have not been invited to hustings, others harassed by the police. Party of Women are a new party, they're not politicians, and most are very new to all of this. Most are active on social media.

Your best bet is to contact your candidate and offer assistance. I'm sure many would appreciate assistance.
From my understanding of the law so long as you don't try to mimic it/make it clear it isn't official POW material it should be okay. However, I know that a POW candidate has been contacted by the police because someone put up a sticker promoting POW which doesn't have an imprint on so it could result in the police harassing candidates.
