As ever, I've tried to pull out points relevant to FWR/women and girls:

'Increase paid maternity leave to one year, with maternity pay set at 100% of average weekly earnings for the first 12 weeks, then 90% for 40 weeks or £150.00, whichever is lower. The UK Government should increase shared parental leave from 52 to 64 weeks, with the additional 12 weeks to be the minimum taken by the father on a ‘use it or lose it’ basis, in order to encourage an increase in shared parental leave'

'Scrap the two child benefit cap and associated rape clause which has driven thousands of families into poverty and forced women to relive the trauma of rape in order to claim the support they, and their children, need to live. Unlike
Labour and the Tories, we stand firmly against this abhorrent policy and will continue to call for its abolition.'

'Stand up for WASPI women by pressing the UK Government to deliver full, fast and fair compensation for women who have been wronged by pension inequality.'

'Protect the right to abortion. We are clear that all women should have access to abortion services in a timely and safe manner. The UK Government should follow Scotland’s lead in reviewing the law on abortion to ensure that abortion is first and foremost treated as a healthcare matter.'

'Protect and enhance the rights of LGBTI community. The SNP has a proud record of advancing and championing LGBTI rights in government, and we will continue to build on this, working with LGBTI communities, to make Scotland a fairer and more equal place to live. With independence we would have the full powers to improve equality in law and society, and the ability to champion LGBTI
equality internationally.'

SNP 2024 Manifesto: A Future Made in Scotland

A vote for the SNP is a vote for independence. On July 4, vote for a future made in Scotland, for Scotland. Read the SNP’s 2024 General Election Manifesto.

A lot of waffle then without much substance. If you're a lone parent you get 52 weeks mat leave, but if not can get 64? Am I reading that correctly?

Thanks for posting OP.

My first thought is great, how are they proposing these things be paid for?

With independence we would have the full powers to improve equality in law and society

this basically means that they'll push through another GRR bill with no section 35 to stop them, doesn't it?

MaryBethMayfair · 19/06/2024 16:11

I don't see how they are actually going to action these pipe dreams. They've been elected for years so if it's achievable, why hasn't it been done already? The key points are things they need Westminster to roll over on, which we know they won't.

I'll probably vote SNP, because there isn't an alternative party that I hate less. But I had hopes for at least some realistic aspirations; I do need to go through the whole manifesto though, in fairness.

ArabellaScott · 19/06/2024 16:42

It won't take long, MaryBeth.

I suppose one question to ask before voting as this is for Westminster, who would be more effective as a balance to a large Labour majority.

Although I suppose in this scenario it want make much difference if it is SNP or Scottish Labour.

Although I did here in an interview that the SNP will see this as an indication as to support for independence.

ArabellaScott · 19/06/2024 22:47

SNP are on the ropes. Their ex CEO arrested for embezzlement, Salmond's case coming up, party broke, members leaving. They've virtually abandoned independence, so they have no reason to continue other than to cling to power for their own gains.

They'll be no counter at all to Labour.

They'll be no counter at all to Labour.

And I suppose unlikely to making voting alliances with Tories, Reform, Lib Dem, Greens and some independents to try and stop a Labour Government bulldozing their agenda.

ArabellaScott · 20/06/2024 07:43

They may ally with Greens or Libdems, I suppose. They're looking likely to have around 20- 30 MPs, last time I checked.
