That's good news. Who is it? How do you know? Might be a silly question but did you check all the names?

No, I just googled the 6 candidates for my ward, including her - and her name came up on the petition. There's only one person with that name on the petition - and she gives her (NHS) job title, which matches what her green party credentials say.

So, yeah, I'll vote for her.

Frances Bonney, Milton Keynes Central in case anyone is interested. Thank you, Frances.

That isn't what's in their party manifesto though

"Campaign for the right of self-identification for trans and non-binary people"

I know.

But the other choices are rancid. So I'm left with voting for the candidate, not the party.

I’d probably not draw too much attention to it to be honest in case they kick her out!

Valeriekat · 13/06/2024 21:56

The party manifesto is what the candidate has to follow.
Theirs is pretty rancid.

DramaLlamaBangBang · 13/06/2024 21:57

They need more of her in the party, and if she gets a lot of votes, it'll cause a stink if they kick her out. I'm surprised she's still thete though, considering their treatment of others.

MikiSu · 13/06/2024 22:00

Yes but if/when she gets the whip her own views no longer matter, that's how politics works im afraid!

Green manifesto is only to campaign for self ID.

What's your suggestion?

Labour?

Conservative?

It's nowhere near as bad as Labours on this.

She's posted her full name and occupation on there. She didn't have to do that.

TulipsAndZombies · 13/06/2024 22:03

No she really didn’t, fair play to her!!

Rightsraptor · 13/06/2024 22:08

She's brave. I'm surprised she's not on a 'no fault suspension'. Sounds benign, doesn't it?

MikiSu · 13/06/2024 22:22

@letthegamesbeginagain they're all shit options I know. I live in the valleys, it's guaranteed to be a labour win no matter what tbh!

PickAChew · 13/06/2024 23:10

I've been trying to find out more on my own candidates. It turns out my own green candidate is a an old fashioned ecology green and, like my local lib dem candidate, who is an excellent county councillor, doesn't seem to wade in to any of the gender woo. The national parties they represent are the problem, at the moment.

RandySavage · 13/06/2024 23:13

I have a similar dilemma, also in Milton Keynes (north).
I cannot vote tory, the lib Dems are ridiculous and sinister at the same time, and though know and quite like the Green candidate I won't be voting for the misogynist/homophobe party.
When I asked our Labour candidate "what is a woman" he instantly replied "adult human female", - so I think I'll be voting labour despite misgivings.

ArabellaScott · 14/06/2024 08:40

There are some fantastic, and very deeply committed feminists in the Green Party. Unfortunately, as noted above, there have been sustained campaigns to boot them out.

For Greens, I tend to look for environmental policies and a history of environmental interests. There are some who are real Greens, and then the newer wave of 'social justice' people who are frankly an embarrasment.

fromorbit · 14/06/2024 08:56

There is a massive civil war inside the Greens. Green Party Women the official group for women in the party is run by Gender Crits. So if you have a gender crit green candidate backing them is a solid option

Pallavi Devulapalli
Green Party Spokesperson for Health, Social Care & Public Health, Green MP candidate for SW Norfolk is another gender crit green

The election coming now is good news for the Greens as if it came later the court cases they are facing might bankrupt them.

Many Green party candidates actually have a reasonably balanced view, to be fair - I have heard them advocate for fairness in women's sport, and so on

Floisme · 14/06/2024 09:16

I'd contact her and ask her views (using the Sex Matters questions) before deciding but yes, in your shoes and if the only alternative was spoiling my vote, I think I'd probably do the same. Even if she were ultimately whipped into line (and that's assuming she was likely to win) it would still be one less MP who was either totally unscrupulous or batshit.

He hasn’t answered me. I’ve sent him the Sex Matters questions

Hello, I hope it's OK to post here, I'm a man (retired NHS psychiatrist) and not a parent either but I've followed this thread with great interest because I have the same problem as many who've posted here. I too live in MK where if she's elected Frances Bonney would be my MP so I googled and found this very helpful discussion. Thank you. I have tonight emailed her (I hope it does actually reach her for there's only an address given for the constituency). I'm not at all sure she'll reply, apart from understandable reasons of being very busy right now!

After a preamble in which I stated my own gender-critical views, I got to this bit: 'My understanding is that the Green Party as a collective would not agree with me.

'But right now I'm most interested in what you yourself personally believe and would campaign for, or would be permitted by your party to campaign for, should you be elected to parliament. Would you campaign to uphold the facts of biology, to respect language and logic, to discourage (at least) the forced speech involved in pronoun deployment? Would you campaign to safeguard the freedom from legal prosecution of anyone who refuses to deny the evidence of their own eyes and ears, and simply cannot take part in some polite pretence that a man is (really, somehow) a woman? (A person might choose as a courtesy, out of not wishing to upset someone, to reify gender over sex and I could understand that, and indeed sometimes respect it, but only if it's a course freely chosen.) ...

I added that I'd always been a lifelong Labour voter but simply can't vote for them this time, however there were times in the past I voted Green and even was, albeit briefly, a party member.

If she does reply, I'll report it here, if that's OK.

All best
Brian

Thank you, Brian. It will be interesting to see what response, if any, you get.

UtopiaPlanitia · 28/06/2024 00:10

Brian I'd also be keen to hear about any response. Thanks for posting.
