Judge won’t increase restraining order for clearly dangerous stalker

I’m really horrified by this report. It’s about a woman who lives on a remote smallholding in Wales who has been abused, and then stalked and threatened by her ex partner when she ended the relationship. This culminated in him holding her at gunpoint for 8 hours. He was sent to prison but his sentence has recently ended. She applied, unsuccessfully to have the distance he has to keep from her and her children extended to more than 800m from her home

Bloody hell. I recall her being interviewed on radio 4 just before he was released and her fear was absolutely clear.

In all honesty I'd have to move . These sorts of men to not follow any legal ' restrictions'.
As she is rural there is no-one to help in an emergency.

A larger area in the restraining order isn't going to gaurentee safety though. It's illegal to hold her hostage with a gun for 8 hours threatening her life and it happened. I think this about non molestation orders too- they just reaffirm what is already illegal and has been ignored.

She shouldn't have to but she needs to move. The police and justice system can't protect her she needs to live where he does know.

The article talks about her living in constant fear as PTSD and I question that? It's not post trauma is it it's a real risk so it's normal healthy body responding to that. Should she receive treatment to numb her to the risk? If he's not locked up she should move for her own safety and mental health and then she can start to heal and deal with what is PTSD and what is a real risk not to be dismissed.

Poor woman

These male judges have zero respect for or understanding of women needing to feel safe from violent men. Enraging.

Allowing a restraining order is an admission that he is not rehabilitated enough to be released

Reading the article it sounds like the original judge made the error by limiting him from going to only a small area around where the woman lives. Presumably if the current judge did not follow the law and the ex broke the order then it would be vacated on appeal for not following the law.

The issue is though that whatever restraining order there is does not protect a woman because he can breach it. I think I'd have to move away for mine and my children's safety.
