Labour pledging this as part of their manifesto commitment to reduce VAWG.

So pleased to see an actual tangible action targeted at something that will help women. I'm looking forward to seeing what else is in their manifesto now.

I just don't believe it. I find it hard to believe any politician these days, he's clearly trying to find a popular policy idea that will get him votes. When actually in power, no doubt this will slide onto the back burner, or it will be announced that because of XYZ issue left behind by the Conservatives, that it's no longer possible. Or similar.

And of course, if prison estate becomes essentially mixed sex/male instead of female/male, then there's one set of vulnerable women who won't be seeing an improvement in their circumstances.

They announced it in October so its not a new thing. Good to know it's going to be in the manifesto though.

This is a good faith post Confused I've always said the effective decriminalisation of rape is my number 1 feminist priority.

Also I've got told to start threads to discuss this sort of thing, so here I am.

Can't do right for doing wrong on here.

Because only adult males AKA men have penises.

100% of rapists are male. 86% of victims are female.

This is a woman friendly policy regardless of how anyone (victim or offender) "identifies".

Locking up rapists is a good thing for women. Getting rape cases heard is a good thing for women.

I find it strange anyone feminist could write this off tbh.

You need to do some research.

Across 281 commonly committed crimes recorded by the Ministry of Justice, men are responsible in at least 95 per cent of cases in 68 of them.
These include some of the most heinous crimes, including 99 per cent of rape cases.

The data that shows JK Rowling is correct

Analysis of crimes sent to court in England and Wales over a three-year period overwhelmingly shows women defendants are in the minority

Except you're not posting about rape and this policy. You're posting about how awful all the other posters here are for not believing what Starmer says or for not trusting him to actually implement this policy or for disbelieving that it can be implemented successfully. You're just enjoying having a go at anyone you think isn't allowed to have an opinion.

I'm not having a go at anyone.

Haha, as if there was any doubt what this board is all about 🤣.

FWR: "Actually, you should take some time to listen to misogynist, criminal stalker of women Tommy Robinson, and stop being so closed minded."

FWR also "What, a meaningful policy that might actually benefit women? Ah but you see, that's from Labour".

It gets funnier by the minute in here. 😂

At least everyone reading can see it for what it actually is now.

All rapes are committed by men because its a crime of penetration by a penis.

Very very rarely a woman is also prosecuted as an accessory.

I want to see rapes being dealt with properly. Labour so far are the only party to acknowledge the issue and have any form of response.

It is a bit weird that this particular policy is being hated on so much Confused

fedupandstuck · 09/06/2024 20:13

Your reading comprehension is terrible if you think people are "hating" on this policy. That's not the issue.

lonelywater · 09/06/2024 20:13

CassieMaddox · 09/06/2024 19:57

Well this does just go to show how politicised this board is.
An actual tangible policy that will benefit women (aka adult human females) being pooh-poohed because it came from Labour.

its being greeted with less than ecstatic cheering because Labour has been a fucking car crash on all things trans, which you know (or should do if you have been paying attention)

It's not really, when you recognise the true intent of many posting on this board.

All the parties are a "fucking car crash on all things trans".

I'm a feminist so happy to see any policies aimed at reducing harm to females. They are few and far between sadly.

Completely agree. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. Some of the responses on here are infuriating.

BaseDrops · 09/06/2024 20:17

Why would you think that anything which purports to be for the benefit of women will be met with the posters ofFWR immediately fawning with gratitude and accepting it as face value?

The last few years has made it very clear that women absolutely cannot do that.

fedupandstuck · 09/06/2024 20:18

@CassieMaddox I don't trust Starmer or his party to follow through on this. I don't believe that they will prioritise women. Evidence shows that they prioritise other types of people. This policy sounds great, but I won't vote for Labour because I don't trust Starmer or believe he will or can deliver what he says.

How would you try to convince me that Starmer is believable and trustworthy when it comes to addressing women's rights?

Signalbox · 09/06/2024 20:18

Trouble is even if there is an apparent reduction of mvawg we’ll never really know if it’s an actual reduction or if they’ve just fudged the data. Labour want to make it easier for people to lie about their sex on official documents. As long as this is happening it will be hard to trust any future stats / data in relation to sex.

Yeah. We just won't know. Probably better to leave the status quo where it is effectively decriminalised. At least its clear what is going on Confused
