She's going after the club and the coppers. The article spells out very clearly why

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/06/08/gender-critical-newcastle-fan-linzi-smith-sues-police/

I think I recall previous mentions of this case.

For some reason I was able to read the article and the comments (the selection I saw were all supportive) without archive. There were mentions and a link for the Crowdfunder in the comments. If anyone else feels moved to donate remember you can remove the garnish that Crowdfunder takes for itself.

I think the case she's pursuing against the Police is important. I don't believe they should be perceived as taking sides. Handing out pronoun badges ffs!

I'm not sure the Rainbow Laces thing is wise for Linzi to take on, particularly when her own case hasn't been sorted out yet. I had a look at the crowdfunder, and it's not clear what her grounds for suing are - is this an Equality Act thing, or something else - or if she has standing either.

Lovelyview · 10/12/2024 07:24

I think she's saying it's political which is against the FA's own rules. So forcing people to take part in making a political statement they don't agree with is discrimination against someone on the grounds of their protected belief? I'm doubtful of the wisdom of it too.

WarriorN · 10/12/2024 08:05

Given it's a stonewall initiative and stonewall state the concept is to tackle transphobia amongst homo/bi/lesbiphobia, i can understand why.

It could be seen as rainbow washing coming from a club owned by Saudi Arabia.

Initially i thought it wasn't wise but now i do think it's pertinent to the case . I don't know how successful she'll be but this is about stonewall and highlighting the issue. She's a lesbian too so they can't accuse her of homophobia here.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 10/12/2024 08:50

The case should expose the hypocrisy of the FA having clear guidelines about not making political statements etc and then ignoring them for their preferred organisation. An openly political lobby group that's upending the social contract, removing women's hard won rights and more.

This hypocrisy needs to be exposed. Schools are legally required to to be politically impartial yet sign up to Stonewall as if they're some sort of harmless rainbow decorating service. Hopefully this case will expose this to the public.

WarriorN · 10/12/2024 09:09

A Local academy use the ground as part of their reward system; winners of the most points in a year get to go to visit (that's a whole other thread, don't get me started)

Not to mention how many children adore the toon.

So it is important that the club are held to account over things like this.

Needmoresleep · 10/12/2024 09:53

There are parallels with Allison Bailey.

Underlying the capture of so many organisations is the Stonewall overreach. Be good, sign up to our Stonewall index, implement policies we advise, pay us for our training and presumably for rainbow tat . Forget common sense and concerns about women.

It might be hard to prove, but football with its policies limiting political signalling is about as good as place as any. A case will be highly visible. There will be many within the sport who are already uncomfortable with the nonsense. The cognitive dissonance of promoting trans inclusion whilst promoting women's football. Yet so little done to actually support gay players.

If she is successful I hope others will take note. Bloody trans flags at National Trust properties. SWR's progress flag painted train. The NHS and their rainbow lanyards. Even Keir Construction waving progress flags on their building sites. No females there. Presumably the only inclusion they want to promote is male inclusion.

dunBle · 10/12/2024 12:16

But the thing with Alison's case was that her employer discriminated against her in breach of the Equality Act, and she believed that Stonewall induced them to do so. I'm not sure that the FA being hypocritical about their rule enforcement is actually illegal, just a bit shit. If they had actually charged Marc Guehi with misconduct over writing on his armband, or Sam Morsy for refusing to wear one, then they might have had a case perhaps, but how is Linzi being forced to take part? Given how expensive these cases can get, it'd be helpful to know how her legal team think this case can be won, rather than just talking about why she thinks the case is important.

I think this is good news for Linzi. Unfortunately, archive.ph is taking ages so I've not been able to read the article

That reads like they've forced her to kowtow if I'm entirely honest.

They are satisfied she is sufficiently gagged, even if not fully.

Personally, I could never stomach walking in that stadium again. My pride is worth more than that.

lcakethereforeIam · 06/11/2025 23:19

It's finally archived

I'm tending to agree with @ANameChangePresents but Linzi's done so much, I can understand if she's tired. Let's see what the future holds.

I’m a Newcastle fan. It’s a way of life up there and I can see why she would want to return. The club sounds as if it realised negotiations with Linzi were a better look than trying to force her on some ‘correctional’ course. And hopefully they will focus their attentions on actual trouble makers in future, rather than women tweeting biological facts. Linzi has achieved amazing things in terms of challenging the police gender posturing. I can see why she might just want her seat back. I hope she is welcomed warmly when she returns - if she sits anywhere near my grandad (a season ticket holder in the Gallowgate) or the thousands like him, she’ll have no issues - they won’t have any truck with gender nonsense either.
