Have you written to your parliamentary candidates?

Just starting writing to parliamentary candidates (I only know who the Labour and Conservative ones are) This is my message to the Labour candidate:
'I am writing regarding my deep concern that Labour is going to roll back women's rights while bowing to those who promote trans ideology. Over the last fifteen years this ideology has gained a grip in our public institutions including schools, the NHS and the civil service. This has led to some appalling consequences including the deeply harmful medicalisation of gender distress in children which was revealed in the Cass Report. I have been encouraged by Wes Streeting's statements on this matter and hope this signals a change in how Labour address this issue, but am concerned that making it easier to self ID as the opposite sex will create a situation where women are unable to challenge men who access women's spaces. Trans ideology is deeply homophobic and misogynistic. It tells same sex attracted and gender non conforming people that they have been born in the wrong body and need hormones and surgeries to make this 'right' and even men who have not had reassignment surgery demand the right to access women's spaces if they 'feel' like a woman.

I refer you to the Sex Matters website https://sex-matters.org/posts/updates/ge2024-stand-up-for-single-sex-services/ whose election asks I agree with and request that you reply to me as a local voter outlining your position on this issue. The issue of single sex spaces is too important for me to vote for a political party that will not protect women's rights in this matter.'

Ill be doing the Conservatives next. We live in the middle of nowhere and are unlikely to get canvassers round. Anyone else campaigning in this way?

GE2024: Stand up for single-sex services - Sex Matters

A summer election has been called. Sex Matters calls for clarity in law and a return to policies based on the objective reality of sex, not the subjective feeling of “gender identity”. Parties must be absolutely clear when it comes to sex-based rights....

Members of Women's Rights Network are also doing this.

Thanks for this OP - will be writing to my candidates although not holding out much hope having viewed their 'About me' statements.

Thanks for this, if you don't mind I will use some of your letter! I did start but got stuck on what to write...

Form1ess · 30/05/2024 21:50

Yes, but I need to edit my letter as it's far too long. I'm in a seat that could potentially swing so my vote is available to whichever candidate protects women's rights.

Did anyone get a reply? I've had a total of big fat zero!

Runor · 10/06/2024 13:07

Yes, I got a reply. My conservative candidate was clearly aware of the issues and firmly in support of (biological) women’s rights. My labour candidate sort of waffled round the ‘safe spaces/supporting everyone in our community’ stuff (I’d made v clear what I was looking for) and the said basically he was outsourcing his thinking to Anneliese Dodds.

I don’t really want to support the Tories, but we have a good local Tory MP, and switching appears to support GI, so I guess that’s the choice I have.
