Feminism: Sex and gender discussions
ArabellaScott · 26/05/2024 17:05

'Scotland’s most vulnerable women ex-prisoners are being forced to undergo rehabilitation alongside trans people in a controversial move compared to the Isla Bryson scandal.

Politicians and campaigners are demanding an immediate halt to the practice after revelations that some of the most vulnerable women in the criminal justice system are being further traumatised while being forced to rehabilitate alongside violent trans prisoners at the “women-only” Willow Project.

Willow supports women at all stages of the criminal justice system, including former prisoners returning to Edinburgh and the Lothians, helping them reintegrate back into society.'

'Edinburgh City Council said: “Willow is a gender-specific and trauma-informed service that responds to the individual needs of women, most of whom have experienced some level of trauma in their lives. We approach each woman’s situation individually and tailor interventions to assessed need and risk.”

It shouldn't be 'gender' specific. It should be sex specific.

And the carefully worded individual risk assessment bullshite in the last paragraph - because that went so well for the SPS, didn't it?

This - together with MW - is so disgustingly determined that there has to be something else behind it. Someone, or some organisation/interest, has to be the invisible guiding hand. It's too weird for there not to be more to it.

Whenever I see the phrase "trauma informed" I'm fairly certain that it operates to alert me like the rattle of a rattlesnake that I'm about to read about something that isn't trauma informed which is why they had to tell me that it was.

BezMills · 26/05/2024 18:01

I'm trauma informed but...

littlbrowndog · 26/05/2024 18:13

This is our new and progressive Scotland where women don’t matter. At all

IwantToRetire · 26/05/2024 19:03

I'm going to try and be upbeat about this, in that it is a clear illustration of just how entrenced the TWAW mantra had permeated Scotland's prison services.

And hopefull this article and the recent Roz Adam's case will make enought people in Scotland say no, this has to stop.

Maybe?

Could it be possible?

I hope those who attend hustings or front door electioneering, will use this as another example of the madness.

Those poor women. Its just unimaginable that anyone thought it was okay to oppress women like this.

Tbh when I see "trauma informed" I expect some kind of batshit thing that isn't good for others.

Most recently for me, we've been doing some training in my workplace that is seeking to help the employees be sensitive and responsive to the trauma of the service users. Which is certainly a significant cohort at the moment, many drug users and people without any housing.

The staff however feel that operating as has been recommended basically means they have to accept being treated like shit at work by the serve-users, and working in a stressful environment which is never going to be able to help those people because it isn't part of our mission, and trying to do so undermines our actual mission.

It reminds me of that school discipline approach which recommends giving all kinds of special attention and privileges to kids who misbehave and make things miserable for others while ignoring all the other kids.

More grimness.

TheColourOutOfSpace · 27/05/2024 08:25

James Morton and other gender zealots in Scotland targeted putting men in women's prisons, because if they could force it through the prison service (and pretend to the general public there were no problems) then all other public services would follow.

It's not surprising that this ideology is still deeply embedded there.

I asked the mental health team I worked with what 'trauma-informed' meant.

They rolled their eyes and said 'it means we acknowledge your situation and past trauma but still can't do what you want'

Cynical but I suspect true. Whenever I see trauma-informed it always looks like well meaning window dressing.

StealthSpinach · 27/05/2024 09:46

I really want to know the time line and chain of command that these decisions went through.

Who made the initial suggestion to house biological males with vulnerable women/alongside women in treatment programs?
Who agreed to it?
Who pushed it down as new policy?
Who argued against it?

The trail has to have come from somewhere - I want to see the origin and progression of the rot…
