Is there a resource anywhere to look up local candidate views on sex and gender?

Could we create it here?

www.spectator.co.uk/article/jk-rowling-takes-aim-at-starmer-over-duffield-snub/

My MP, Fabian Hamilton, Leeds North East, replies politely to my emails but always has a prior engagement so won't be at the debate.

OP great idea to collate views!

MyUsernameIsBetterThanYours · 25/05/2024 18:13

Great! Let’s do it. I might email my candidates next week and see what kind of response I get.

I'm going to get questions prepped- not sure all candidates have been announced yet.

YahdahYahdayYoo · 25/05/2024 19:59

I'll go first.

Devon South is a two horse race between sitting Tory Anthony Mangnall and contender LD Caroline Voaden. I've contacted them both. Mangnall surprised me with quite a personal position on the gender topic ie freedom to live one's life as one sees fit but concern around youngsters on PB. He endorses the Cass report.

Voaden also surprised me. She has a good history working in rape crisis and immediately apologised for how her party has treated people like me. However she finds the Cass report 'difficult' and refers to cis women. She respects and supports that in DRCSAS +90% service users want a woman only service.

There is currently a progressive alliance to oust Mangnall. Voaden is widely seen as a strong candidate winning over the diasaffected right and the Labour left (Lab have no chance) with her strong character and inspiring background.

ArabellaScott · 25/05/2024 20:06

Sounds promising. Maybe worth asking more questions about why the Cass Review is 'difficult '?

NorthUtsireSouthUtsire · 25/05/2024 20:33

I'm sorry but as a vehement GC person I just want decent HONEST NON CORRUPT NON GRIFTER representation ..

Let me make myself entirely clear .. men are NOT women.. if you have a penis and no uterus then you are a man .. it's not difficult.. BUT ..

Can you not see that this is just about the ONLY thing the Tories subscribe to .. but without doing ANYTHING about it ..? It's just words ..

This is helpful. I am in a new constituency (Honiton and Sidmouth) which has been split off from Tory East Devon and LD Tiverton and ?Axminster. Both the current MPs for those seats are contesting the new seat, so it will be a fascinating race. Simon Jupp (E Devon) is an undistinguished backbencher, a yes man for BJ, with a horrible record on environmental issues, but did respond to a letter I sent on the conversion therapy bill. Richard Foord, by all accounts an excellent constituency MP, did not respond to the same letter. I would like to vote for RF but LD views on gender are a sticking point. Your post has inspired me to write again. Can I ask what your questions were?

Floisme · 26/05/2024 07:46

I think that's a great template from the Respect My Sex campaign.

As someone who never heard back from my MP last time I tried, I particularly like the bit about, 'If you choose not to reply I shall assume this is not a priority for you and cast my vote accordingly'.

I framed a few questions around their opinion on the Cass review, underage pb and schools as I am a mother. I also asked about the GRA. I didn't bother with the gotcha question what is a woman. I tried to keep it short and didn't really expect replies from either. This was a few weeks ago. By their speedy replies I felt certain we were headed to an early election and was thus proven correct ☺️.

Voaden's difficulty with the Cass report was the 'unevidenced' claim which seems to be an easy way for politicians on the left to avoid dealing with the report's uncomfortable conclusions. I can't be bothered to argue with her. I felt her position was more subtle than I expected and believe this to be a direct consequence of Cass in fact. Suddenly it's ok to talk about biological women and risks when it wasn't before (no debate). I am gutted by her strong record of working with women. She would absolutely be the type of politician I could vote for if transgenderism wasn't a thing.

DeliberatelyDefiant · 26/05/2024 08:55

I will also email my local MPs. I was going to order the respect my sex leaflets but they are currently OOS.

CosplayingAGrownUp · 26/05/2024 09:02

I have emailed my LD candidate. Nothing would persuade me to vote for the Tory, so little point engaging him. I may ask the Green candidate his views though, to see how he aligns with his party (he's a retired farmer...).

ArabellaScott · 26/05/2024 09:49

Up to individuals of course, but part of the point of contacting candidates is raising the issue and letting them know people care. Matters not a jot if you plan to vote for them or not.

This was absolutely my thinking. How many times have we heard 'the topic doesn't doesn't come up on the doorstep' as an excuse to avoid questions? I am making noise in the way I can to make sure candidates are aware this is important to me as a voter.

Indeed. But likely all gender critical, which is what really counts apparently.

Good point.

BezMills · 26/05/2024 12:01

Well obviously most of the list o shame above are in the Gender is Fab and A Great Way To Keep Women In Their Place tendency, rather than Gender Critical, but hey

duc748 · 26/05/2024 12:09

And that's

Natalie Elphicke (Labour), you monster!

BezMills · 26/05/2024 12:20

God, that was a bizarre event when she crossed over

Nice attempt at trying to tie in the GC movement to abortion control. I'll vote how I like and the topics that are important to me. This is not the US, we aren't rolling back abortion rights. If there are no left wing politicians prepared to state the truth then that is their loss, I won't endorse them.

Oh please. Vote for who you like, but only a zealot or an idiot would vote for someone solely based on having or not having GC views.
