Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Vote SDP for a left-ish gender critical alternative!

Sidaway · 23/05/2024 10:57

Yes, the SDP, aka The Social Democratic Party, founded by David Owen in 1982. Still going!

(Not to be confused with the SNP...)

Left-of-centre and most importantly, gender-critical.

I have no affiliation with them, but if they run a candidate in my local constituency (unlikely admittedly), I will vote for them.

Disappointing that they wouldn't repeal the GRA, but the rest looks promising:

SDP - Transgender and Sex-based Rights

We believe the rights of trans people must be belanced against the needs of biological females to remain safe.

I did for the mayoral elections.

Snowypeaks · 23/05/2024 12:02

I would, but no SDP candidates are standing in my constituency. I've read their full statements of policies/principle, etc in the past. Not sure I'd call them left-of-centre, and they are a bit illiberal in other ways, but basically I could live with most of their policies and the women's rights approach is much better than Labour's.
Edited for grammar.

Sausagenbacon · 23/05/2024 12:06

I would if they stood here

Tinyhattinycat · 23/05/2024 12:07

I will if there is a candidate

Lovelyview · 23/05/2024 12:42

I don't think there will be a candidate in my constituency. I was looking at them but was a bit concerned that Rod Liddle was a candidate at the last election and he's a complete d**k (or was last time I read any of his stuff which admittedly was about 15 years ago).

RandySavage · 23/05/2024 12:57

I’ll vote for them if they put a candidate up in my constituency.
if not I’ll be voting for a local, single issue candidate.

I don't know much about Rod Liddle. I quite enjoy his Times column for the anti-woke, anti-"received wisdom" perspective.

Thank you for that - I honestly didn’t know they were still going and I see now there’s a candidate in my constituency.

Not sure he's the obvious choice for a GC person to support:

He also called a Labour MP who spoke out about breaking free of an abusive relationship as "the sobbing and oppressed Rosie '#MeToo' Duffield"

EachFallenRobin · 23/05/2024 14:36

I've usually voted Labour but am reluctant to do so this year as I am GC. This morning I was reading the SDP website, as I'd heard they are also GC, but was surprised to see that they believe trans people should be allowed to legally* *change their sex. I just can't vote for that.

Yes, I know. Disappointing. But their general attitude seems better than the rest of them. (Apart from Party of Women, of course).

Then you'll be livid when you find out the kind of things LRM has been saying

ResisterRex · 23/05/2024 15:18

All parties have their utter idiots. Yet the one party that's very clear on GC matters gets an instant derail attempt. Noted.

EachFallenRobin · 23/05/2024 15:26

@Sidaway yes, their attitude is better by far, and clearly stated. But supporting still being legally able to change sex is weird - why would they have that as a policy?

Because repealing the GRA is still considered by most as an extremist view, even if many women here have concluded it really will need to be done in order to sort all this nonsense out.

Yes, sadly, that's what it is - a political compromise, to avoid being painted as extremist.

If I had Tory values I'd be happy to vote for them but I don't believe that water companies and railways should ever have been privatised. I think what the Tories have done to the NHS and disabled people amongst others is utterly shocking. Although I am unlikely to vote Labour unless they lay out some very clear policies protecting women's spaces and preventing teaching gender woo in schools and certainly won't be voting Green or Lib Dems because of their policies regarding trans self id I won't be voting Tory because I disagree with their entire philosophy and most of their policies.

ResisterRex · 23/05/2024 18:10

Labour's LRM:

x.com/mforstater/status/1542808526711570432?s=46&t=WHoOZ_3Kv5G6-FyQuvE0LQ

Teachers should tell children how to do auto-erotic asphyxiation safely, apparently.

So each party has their idiots.

You can undo the privatisation of a utility company, but you can't undo the damage of adultification of children.

Tinyhattinycat · 30/05/2024 11:50

Oh my constituency has a candidate. They have my vote

Igmum · 30/05/2024 16:45

My constituency has a candidate too. I voted for them in 2019 and will vote for them again. Haven't the foggiest idea who they are, they seem to have no online presence at all, which is pretty odd but as a politically homeless lefty GC they are my only option.

So agree! Also they've had 14 years to do a whole lot more and several of their front bench were on the TWAW kick till just 2 minutes ago.
