Football Association is against women's football - Speak out

The Football Association which banned women's football from 1921-1970 because “the game of football is quite unsuitable for females and ought not to be encouraged” has decided the best way to eliminate women's football is by letting men play in their teams. I note this is when women's football is increasingly popular and is finally getting money.

At a time when most sports in the UK are admitting that women exist and are different than men the FA is pedalling old fashioned sexism. What makes it worse is they are claiming to ITV that women are fine with this policy.

An FA spokesperson said: "Our current transgender policy has been in place for ten years, and it has helped to enable a very small population of transgender women to enjoy playing football safely in the grassroots game.
"This is a complex and constantly evolving area, and our review remains ongoing as we monitor and support the practical application of our policy."
Over the past decade, the FA has experienced very little negative reaction to its policy on the grounds of either safety or fairness.
That is one significant reason why bosses feel for the time being there is no pressing need to give in to government demands.

Women's Rights Network recently met with the FA and have discovered the FA know exactly how many men are involved:

Sports bodies like the FA really must step up and show some moral leadership.

There may be no men identifying as women CURRENTLY in the professional game, but there are 72 women who have lost places to men in amateur sports.

These are 72 women not playing.
This is neither kind nor fair.
We recently met with the FA and discussed our concerns on behalf of women and girls directly.

They cannot accommodate faux illusions of ‘inclusion’ while also protecting women’s sport. That’s the InclusionDelusion.

72 women forced out of their team. Countless women forced to play with/against men.
Unacceptable. More here

There are questions of safety, safeguarding, and fairness here. The election is coming up ask your candidates do they think that mixed sex football is the only type of football women should be allowed to play like the FA does.

I saw this statistic of 72 males playing in female football here and I was shocked.

So, not ‘just a few’ now? To those who have ever used ‘it is just a few’, how many will be too many?

Considering in the Sydney comp there are 5 in the Flying Bats team, I wonder how many Australia has too. When I listened to the coaches and women speak out about that team, I was horrified. The report that there was more than 20 women known at that time of reporting to have left the game because of those male people playing just in that North Sydney league is bad enough, potential displacement of having over 70 in the FA playing is significant!

very small population of transgender women to enjoy playing football safely in the grassroots game.

What about the safety of women playing against males in a contact sports game? Blood boiling.

Ten years is a looong time in the genderist world. Hell, ten years ago I was still 'be kind'. Then they started taking our stuff. A LOT of our stuff.

The FA needs to shape up and keep pace with athletics, cycling, swimming and rowing.

The lady who had her leg broken should take the FA to court over this. That sort of action seems to be the only way to gain real traction with these people (ie people who choose to put ideology above safety).

The number of transwomen playing is even more galling when you consider the relative provision for men and women. Our local club has 5 men’s teams, but only one for women.

Helleofabore you ask how many is too many, but obviously the answer is n+1….

Unlawful sex discrimination action needed. Arrogant little shits.

How can a man - even a mediocre/rubbish player - be at risk playing against men? They may as well shove him in the under 12s if he is that delicate.

There are men now playing professionally at the top level in the US league and certain national teams. Obviously no female player wants to speak out for fear of abuse.

ThreeWordHarpy · 23/05/2024 19:01

The FA has been unfit for purpose for a very very long time.

They are still well aware that gay professional male footballers are still firmly in the closet and that a culture change needs to happen fix the homophobia and sexism that is rife in the men’s game, but this is one area of “be kind” that apparently they can get in board with with no issue. I wonder what the difference is.

Truthlikeness · 23/05/2024 20:38

It will be a lot more than 72. Not all football leagues operate under the FA and independent leagues can do what they like. Many of those brand themselves as 'inclusive'.

Over ten years ago I knew of a transwoman playing in a women's FA league. As that predates the current policy, I suspect they may just have started playing in the women's team without anyone knowing. None of us who played or trained against them knew they were male. All we knew was they were very strong and had an aggression problem and no-one really liked playing against them and would avoid tackling them.

"Over the past decade, the FA has experienced very little negative reaction to its policy on the grounds of either safety or fairness."

There's a good reason for this - the FA's own policies practically make it a disciplinary matter to voice any dissent.
