And related shenanigans?

Would be much appreciated and I'm sure others would benefit from having the information in one place too.

Many thanks

I'm going to ask my local candidates before deciding who to vote for. I think that's safest given the variety of opinions within the parties.

IwantToRetire · 22/05/2024 20:39

I dont think any party has emphatically and completely explained their position on sex.

There's a huge difference between some politicians feeling able to say women are biological females, and translating that into protecting women's sex based rights.

And I suspect as an issue it will not appear in either major parties manifesto.

Karensalright · 22/05/2024 23:18

Daft question really as you are going to get partisan opinions from us here ( i include myself. In that) I am going to ask my prospective candidate and wait and see what manifestos say.

All of them. Women don’t matter.

TooBigForMyBoots · 23/05/2024 00:43

I don't think the manifestos have been released yet, so it's too early to say.

I know that there's no point going for what the Tories say under Sunak as he'll be gone the day after the election.

Labour views...

Thanks for that reminder. I'm sending this to my DH and showing him why I'm not voting labour. I'm stuck though as I'm in Scotland so not voting SNP either. So it's either spoil my vote or no vote.

Posted this yesterday on another thread...

If Labour win, they will be introducing self ID which will be a disaster for women's safety.

There a long thread here of batsh!t things that Labour politicians have said about women. https://x.com/ripx4nutmeg/status/1442783035389325313

Usual caveat that the manifestos haven't been released, but they have moved away from self ID

ArabellaScott · 23/05/2024 10:17

I'd suggest contacting individual candidates as views differ within all of the parties.

BackToLurk · 23/05/2024 10:23

I know what the LP position is thanks @Shitehound

The only parties who have a realistic understanding of sex will be "far right populist" parties according to mainstream.

Greens / libdem / labour/ Conservative is in order or terrible to least terrible

Look into party of women (posie parker) or heritage party / homeland party.

Reform at a push

Echobelly · 23/05/2024 11:58

Tories: 'If we bang on about trans people under the guise of caring about women, we can hide the fact we don't give a shit and aren't going to do anything that actually helps women'

Labour: 'We'd better toe the Tory line on trans people so that we don't get accused of not caring about women by media outlets that also don't care about women'

LyndaLaHughes · 23/05/2024 12:38

Please do your own up to date research on this, as there is so much out of date nonsense peddled on these threads every single time by people suffering under a delusion that the Tories actually give a shit about women and women's rights. I despair.

mrshoho · 23/05/2024 12:55

I wonder if Labour had been in power would they have stepped in to block the ridiculous Scottish gender bill? At least there is one thing to thank Rishi for!

No they aren't. They've explicitly said they will not do that. Don't make stuff up on a thread intended to be factual and useful to people deciding how to vote.

AdamRyan · 23/05/2024 13:01

I'll be voting Labour whatever due to the fact that they have the most female MPs, have a lot of policies focussed on improving life for women and seem like they are half way competent and ready to lead. But I'll be interested what the other parties say. To date, the ones that are unequivocally "woman = adult human female" either have no other policies or policies that will actively harm women so their position on "womens sex based rights" doesn't outweigh their shitness in other areas. I'm not a single issue voter though.

PronounssheRa · 23/05/2024 13:06

If what is being reported is true, that Labour will change the GRC process so only 1 GP needs to sign off, it's not difficult to imagine the Gender GP type outfits that will spring up to serve this purpose. So yes, it would be self ID in all but name.

Sure, we need to see the details, but the truth is I just don't trust Labour on this

Starmer couldn't even invite Rosie to the GE campaign launch in Kent today, which tells me a lot about how little Labour will listen to women.

bigwavebay · 23/05/2024 14:50

Yes it's been widely reported that Labour want to make it easier for anyone to obtain GRCs with a single trip to the GP and then they can change their sex on their birth certificates. It is self ID in all but name.

Keir Starmer 'still doesn't know what a woman is'

Labour is considering ending the need for an expert panel and two doctors to sign off gender recognition certificates.

Here’s a link to the SDP policy page.

Not sure they qualify as a main party, but worth noting.

I also don’t know where they will be fielding candidates yet. I wish I could stand, but I would have to resign from my job, which isn’t really an option right now.

SDP - Transgender and Sex-based Rights

We believe the rights of trans people must be belanced against the needs of biological females to remain safe.

Worth remembering that the Communist Party as per the Morning Star (I cant keep up with all of their schisms) supports women's sex based rights.

They might not give much of a shit, but at least they know what a woman is; haven’t accused us of hoarding our rights; haven’t got a leader that thinks women can have a penis and bullies women who know what a woman is. They’ve also got the Cass report and plans to tighten guidelines to get gender identity out of schools.

Labour on the other hand are falling over themselves to give our rights away, and Starmer is a complete wet lettuce.
