Possibly doesn't deserve its own thread but it's a good read

To quote one of the comments

'There's been a murrrrderrrrr!'

Nicola Sturgeon's delusional second act

Most people who left politics, er, under a bit of a cloud do this, don't they?

Pretty sure Tricky Dicky Nixon was a good example.

Also, I now know what the technical term is for "Who are you and what have you done with [Bob]?".

Iwishihadariver · 22/05/2024 09:31

That is brilliantly written, and sums up how I feel about the modern world and how uncomfortable I have become at finding a place to inhabit where my eyes don't roll incessantly and I have no fucks left to give.

(Interestingly autocorrect changed fucks to fuschia which is just perfect)

Datun · 22/05/2024 10:24

I started to check what was in my drink. “I just have this belief that people should be allowed to be who they are, feel comfortable, respected, safe and able to live with dignity as who they want to be,” said the premier who had overseen the putting of violent male felons in terrifyingly close quarters with impoverished, vulnerable female prisoners, with no apparent thought to the safety or dignity of the latter.

Quite.

Beowulfa · 22/05/2024 10:52

That was really funny. Also confirmed my rumbling suspicion, having never been, that literary festivals are fairly awful.

They mostly used to be all right, twenty years ago.

Today, alas...

AnnaMagnani · 22/05/2024 11:15

I went to a literary festival 20 years ago and it was great bar a couple of duds.

Looked at the schedule for Hay and just felt depressed about the politics of publishing.

Rainbowshit · 22/05/2024 11:19

Brilliant! Stock is a great writer.

Justme56 · 22/05/2024 11:23

A good read. The first comment 😆

FlakyPoet · 22/05/2024 11:30

Ooof! I love her scathing writing style. Just brilliant.

GeorgeOrwellsTurningGrave · 22/05/2024 13:26

Brilliant article. Mercilessly precise and scathing.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 22/05/2024 13:30

She's such a good writer. The Times have started publishing her articles and the comments underneath are all "more from this writer please".

Abhannmor · 22/05/2024 15:56

Very good. Except Sturgeon has a ' charmingly authentic regional accent '.

I am not qualified to judge how authentic it is but seriously ffs.

ITS FUCKIN CHARMIN

ArabellaScott · 22/05/2024 16:11

I hear.

Abhannmor · 22/05/2024 16:15

I fear you miss my point. There is nothing regional about my own accent , for example. Doc Stock is a good fit Sussex despite her Aberdeen connection.

RoyalCorgi · 22/05/2024 16:19

The only thing I like about Sturgeon is her accent. But it does have the advantage (or disadvantage if you prefer) of making her sound lovely and warm and sincere.

Kath Stock is a brilliant writer, absolutely outstanding. This is another great piece.

Sausagenbacon · 22/05/2024 16:55

That was fun, thank you

lechiffre55 · 22/05/2024 17:08

For me Stock's article distills to an essence the modern middle class middle managment vapid vacuosness of indulgent self virtue perfectly.
Svengali Nicola Zedong shepherding her flock of docile sheep through her curated pastoral ignorance valley avoiding any questions or independent thought at all costs.
Big Sister is watching you. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength. Campervans are theft. Scotland is already independent. Rapist is agenda.
When lies get this grandiose they visit brutal upon the senses in their offense.

Stock's article is great, but the odious subject matter leaves the emotional brackish swampwater tidemarks of a dark yawning void casting a ominous shadow above my head.

My only hope is that Nicola Zedong somehow becomes best buddies with Meghan Markle and then we get The Night Of The Long Backstabbers on looping repeat forever for our entertainment.

heathspeedwell · 22/05/2024 17:19

Thank you for sharing that Icake. It was a brilliant read and some of the comments underneath were also highly entertaining!

RealFeminist · 22/05/2024 17:36

YOUS ALL MISSED THIS BIT:

'Over time she became the great feminist champion who led her people through their darkest hour during Covid.'

Boiledbeetle · 22/05/2024 18:04

I see Doc Stock took one for the team! Good on her! I can't think of anything worse than being sat in a room listening to Nicola witter on!

Am I right in thinking she needed a drink to do it?

I'd need the whole bottle!

HelloMyNameIsElderSmurf · 22/05/2024 18:32

Oh I enjoyed that.

Sobering though, being Scottish I always forget how little Scottish politics are reported elsewhere. A whole tent full of people paying £65 to listen to a woman who despises their very being. 'Best friends' indeed...
