Sean Lennon a 'terf'?

I put 'terf' like that because I think it should be merf myself (Male Exclusionary), anyway....

It looks like John Lennon's son is willing to come out and support our cause, if this is anything to go by: https://x.com/seanonolennon/status/1791500934994149441

Isn't it easy to "have a live and let live attitude" when something does not affect you.

It’s very easy to think like that. So far in my life, I have been personally unaffected by the legal changes and the incursion of men into women’s spaces. It would have been far easier to remain oblivious and there will still be a lot of people in that situation who don’t want to think about it.

Pretty sure that chap has remained personally unaffected by Gaza, capital punishment and apartheid. And I'm even more sure he has opinions on them.

It's only the other half of the population he doesn't give a shit about.

Good to see JKR getting support from other celebs instead of them shoving their heads in the sand. She's such a hero, I am and will always be grateful to her.

To me that exchange summarises precisely how the "terf" label has had so much power in the movement hell-bent on dismantling women's rights.

Gender ideologist - "JKR is a massive terf"

Person B - "what's a terf?"

Gender ideologist - "it's someone who hates trans people and wants them to die."

Person B - "oh that's terrible, how awful, I would just think live and let live..." <Obviously doesn't go trying to hear what JKR actually said>

Thank you JKR for being so instrumental in trying to break the spell because people are actually waking up now.

This is why I think we should adopt the term MERF - Male Exclusionary.. We need to take back the narrative to our advantage.

Then we can say when asked, that it means excluding Males (or men) from female spaces.

How could anyone argue argainst that?

My unsubstantiated head canon is that Sean is definitely gender critical. His dad wrote a song call Woman is the n-word of the world. He saw how is mother was blamed for breaking up home Beatles. Again a woman is to blame for men’s actions.

Dunno. I just read that John Lennon totally screwed over his first wife ( and infant son Julian) when he divorced her after having an affair with Yoko. . She ended up so badly needing money that she sold his love letters to her. She got a large sum, and the buyer turned out to be Paul McCartney who gave them back to her.

I’ve found in life that men who parade their virtue and feminism actually treat women like crap. Men who actually view women as equal human beings just get quietly on with treating them decently and respectfully as it never occurs to them to do anything else.

hihelenhi · 19/05/2024 19:44

Lennon was well-known to have bullied and hit Cynthia, and his treatment of Yoko often wasn't great either (the May Pang "Lost Weekend" for instance). The man was not a feminist or feminist ally, although his behaviour may have improved after he went back to Yoko and in the final years just before his death.

So I don't think it'll be because of his father's "respect" for women. Perhaps Sean just thinks for himself that JK's treatment has been incredibly off? Good for him, if so. Often, when you personally know someone and know what's being said about them is totally incongruous, that'll make you question. It's a shame that the actors in the Harry Potter franchise didn't think like Sean.

I didn't know that about the letters and McCartney, that was decent thing to do.

Oh yeah John was a horrible person in many respects. He was awful to his first wife and older son. I don’t think he was a good person, but he had a lot of interesting and philosophical ideas that he expressed in his lyrics.

Woman is the N word of the world was a Yoko Ono quote which they then co-wrote a song around. Those were Yoko’s words.
I’m sure Sean has a mind of his own and I’m very pleased that he is expressing his thoughts.

ETA I don’t think John was a feminist or even considered himself one. The lyrics to the song (cut for obvious reasons)

[Verse 1]
We make her paint her face and dance
If she won't be a slave, we say that she don't love us
If she's real, we say she's trying to be a man
While putting her down, we pretend that she's above us
[Verse 2]
We make her bear and raise our children
And then we leave her flat for being a fat old mother hen
We tell her home is the only place she should be
Then we complain that she's too unworldly to be our friend
[Verse 3]
We insult her every day on TV
And wonder why she has no guts or confidence
When she's young, we kill her will to be free
While telling her not to be so smart, we put her down for being so dumb

i think yoko either helped with they lyrics or at least greatly inspired them.
