Article: 'Fatal Flaws In the IOC Sponsored Research Study on Transgender Athletes'

This article makes for detailed and informative reading.

Excerpt from conclusion:

'…on every relevant metric, the comparison groups were vastly disparate, akin to comparing 23 apples to 21 oranges.

For example, the comparison group of women were highly athletic and physically fit, well above that of the average woman. Based on the body composition and muscle strength data, the transwomen were not particularly athletic, ranking well below average for men yet still exceeding women in hand grip strength and muscle mass. This demonstrates a retained male advantage in sports performance.'

Seems to be a common theme - the women in these studies often seem to be younger, fitter, or at a higher professional level than the male comparators

The common theme is the fudging of the data to try and pretend males don’t retain advantage.

Very good point, thanks for the highlight @UtopiaPlanitia

I’m in awe of the jiggery-pokery that the IOC-sponsored researchers carried out in their study and was very glad to read a breakdown pointing out the flaws and data massaging.

What gets me is the cognitative dissonance of its safe to put teenagers on cross sex hormones but also trying to pretend like it makes males weak as kittens.

For example in the IOC study, if we are supposed to take it like they intended and not point out that the trans women seem generally unfit and non athletic then there should be huge concern about what hormones are doing to lungs and hearts

"Compared with cisgender women, transgender women have decreased lung function, increasing their work in breathing. Regardless of fat-free mass distribution, transgender women performed worse on the countermovement jump than cisgender women and CM. Although transgender women have comparable absolute V̇O2max values to cisgender women, when normalised for body weight, transgender women’s cardiovascular fitness is lower than CM and women."

It can't be both ways, cross sex hormones can't be given out to anyone who wants them if they're doing what the IOC study suggests. The transwomen in the study are 34+/- 10 so still young and having decreased lung function and poorer cardio function.

I remember the criticism of how the ads for participants were framed for that study.

In calling for trans athletes who feel their potential exclusion from female categories is unfair to participate in their study, Hamilton is actively recruiting participants who want to demonstrate their loss of performance.

transgender sport science studies | Fair Play For Women

Transgender sport policy has spawned a pseudo-science field, but the precautionary principle should prevail...

Crikey! How can this be taken seriously with such blatant bias laid out for all to see in the recruitment?

As @miri1985 points out:
"the cognitative dissonance of its safe to put teenagers on cross sex hormones but also trying to pretend like it makes males weak as kittens".

None of it makes sense. What is so depressing is seeing sporting bodies pandering to this utter nonsense that should have been dealt with years ago with a brisk, "No".
