Because they know that they're telling lies!

Article from Nation Cymru here:
https://nation.cymru/news/ban-on-politicians-lying-law-shelved-despite-cross-party-support/

The man who put it forward is Adam 'transwomen are women, no debate' Price, former leader of Plaid Cymru. The proposal wasn't passed because it was believed that it might disrupt the Senedd reform Bill which will seek to sneak self-ID into legislation.

Lots of rumours here in my bit of Wales that Plaid, which Labour relies on for a majority in the Senedd, is forcing Labour to persist with a full-on gender ideology/ trans rights agenda when there are signs that Labour are concerned it's a vote-loser.

Scotland, you have a rival for the most batshit, tribal and untrustworthy government in the UK.

Ban on politicians lying law shelved despite cross party support

Emily Price Legislation that would ban politicians from lying has been shelved following concerns from the Welsh Government that it could risk the entire future of the Senedd Reform Bill. The amendment, which would have made it a criminal offence for a...

It’s weird for me to see devolved government in places other than us in Northern Ireland being quite bonkers. You have my commiserations, OP

25 years of devolution (today) and this is where we are with politics in Wales. If I wasn't so friggin angry I would laugh hysterically. Embarrassing.

So Adam Price the ex-leader of Plaid Cymru who was forced to stand down as leader because of his failure to do anything at all about the sexism and misogyny in his party, has tried to amend the bill about increasing the number of Senedd members by adding in a provision to make it a criminal offence to for a Senedd member to say something misleading in Senedd proceedings?

So instead of that being an internal conduct matter with internal penalties (such as suspension/ loss of pay) Adam Price wants it to be an external matter, involving the police, and the courts?

In other words Adam Price, Plaid Cymru wants to be able to set the police on his political opponents? Presumably because he thinks the police have nothing better to do?

Adam Price is the member for my constituency
I despair

I think the situation in Scotland and Wales is making a lot of people realise that devolution/ independence isn't the solution that a lot of people thought it would be. The reality of governance of a small, net-beneficiary nation, with all the historical tribalism, a small and incestuous political class and with the constant get-out clause of 'blame Westminster, Westminster made us do it' has been very disappointing.

In my own constituency I'm very aware of the qualitative difference between my MP, who I think is pretty intelligent and capable, and my MS who I wouldn't employ in my small business because he's an incompetent grifter. I see a number of ambitious self-promoters within the Labour party getting very excited at the prospect of all the new opportunities to stand for the Senedd (there are expansion plans), earn a £70k salary and climb aboard the Welsh gravy train that circulates MSs from the Senedd to the universities to heading up charities or voluntary sector organisations.

Not saying this doesn't happen in England, but the talent pool is bigger, the tribalism is diluted and there's at least a fully-functioning media that does, eventually, hold politicians' feet to the fire. Here in Wales there is nothing to hold the Senedd to account. They don't even observe their own rules, and when caught out they just shrug because, having been in power for 25 years, Labour believes it's in power for ever and has no need to stick to the rules.
