I know that there's a thread already about the new trans guidelines but this horror show needs one of its own.
In an article in their magazine about post partum women (mothers) and women who have miscarried (also mothers) not once do they use the words women or mothers only birthing parent 🤬. If that's not bad enough they've only gone and defended it by saying "we put the article in the women's section " as if that makes it ok

Fury as UK physio body calls women 'birthing parents'

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy's Frontline magazine for members included an article on 'new support after pregnancy or baby loss', which omitted the word 'woman'

In the past 4 years I've had a lot of NHS physio, and sessions with NHS physios on movement, safe stretches, adapted exercise, even modified Tai Chi. Maybe I've met about 8 physios - quite a lot, anyway, and from 3 different NHS Trust teams.

Fortunately, not a single one has used any gender-woo language at all. I suspect this might be another 'top down' Coup de Crap, with attempts to normalise it via their professional magazine.

Definitely one for the govt consultation.

Referring to women who have suffered a miscarriage as a “birthing parent” is just awful. Has anyone at CSP stopped to think for a moment how cruel that is?

Theydontknowaboutus · 05/05/2024 13:35

How offensive and thoughtless.

Having had early miscarriages, I didn’t actually consider myself to be “birthing” my baby, I considered myself to be “miscarrying” my baby. I’ve had 2 kids and 3 miscarriages and I don’t consider myself to have given birth 5 times. I know this would be very different if I was later on in my pregnancy and I absolutely would have considered myself to have birthed my baby, but I just think it’s wrong on so many levels.

A woman who has lost a baby is a bereaved mother and has the right to be called that. To hell with people who put women down in order to pander to fanatics.

Concerned physios have a thread here

Unfortunately, our governing body/trade union removes our words and closes our threads on our in-house resource. Well, that's not true, only one topic of conversation gets censored...can you guess which one?

Has anyone here felt had gender neutral langauage used towards them by physios or other healthcare workers?

(I’m a physio and I really hope that’s not the case, unless you told them you were a trans man)
