Breastfeeding charity suspends trustees who want to ban trans women from its services

Six trustees of a nationwide breastfeeding support group have been suspended for demanding that biological men be excluded from their services.

The British wing of <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.ph/o/H8gDN/www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/2022/04/01/nhs-thrall-deranged-progressive-ideology-harming-mothers-babies/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">La Leche League (LLL), which gives mother-to-mother support to those finding it <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.ph/o/H8gDN/www.telegraph.co.uk/health-fitness/body/what-i-really-wish-id-known-about-breastfeeding-that-might-have/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">hard to breastfeed, has been told by its US-based board of directors that the service cannot be single sex and they <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.ph/o/H8gDN/www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/07/08/shouldnt-men-breastfeed-too/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">must support “male lactation”.

The suspended trustees have now complained to the Charity Commission, saying the charity’s demand that trans women were admitted was against UK law because single-sex places are protected.

Kemi Badenoch, the equalities minister, has asked members of the public for examples of state bodies misapplying the rules on single-sex spaces.

I hope LLLI told to do one by the charity commision. LLLI have been disgraceful globally over its treatment of leaders who just want to support mothers.

WarriorN · 02/05/2024 06:52

They've apparently broken their own rules and procedures to do so.

Bizarrely two other GC trustees have not been suspended.

AlisonDonut · 02/05/2024 06:54

How did the breastfeeding communities fall for this nonsense? Of all the things? Of all the communities?

It really does make you wonder what is going on. Did someone pay them to do this?

WarriorN · 02/05/2024 06:57

Many haven't.

I saw a glorious discussion in my local lll private group where only two people believed and the rest scoffed / gently questioned (due to egg shell walking) with a view to exposing the nonsense.

This is a community highly susceptible to 'be kind'. LLL is institutionally 'be kind'.

Plus, as its all.women and infants - or was up until 5 minutes ago, there probably won't have been much of a focus on safeguarding, I imagine.

WomanInGrey · 02/05/2024 07:03

Some of us who didn’t fall for it had a few years of struggle to change things from the inside, realised that we weren’t welcome and left. Years of experience and training just quietly left. I couldn’t risk my job by going public about my volunteer role, and that was the only option I could see, apart from leaving.

I haven’t read the article yet, but am so relieved that some Leaders were brave enough to stay and push back against LLLI. I wish I’d known they existed a few years ago.

LakeTiticaca · 02/05/2024 09:13

When a biological man carries a pregnancy and gives birth to a baby, that's when all this will be acceptable.
We are waiting......

MrsOvertonsWindow · 02/05/2024 10:01

Isn't it incredible? And so deeply offensive. Looking at the comments so many people are speechless at the toxicity and safeguarding fails of all this.

Many of us haven't and we have been bullied relentlessly. It's been really fucking shitty.

The Charitable aims on gov website state are clear enough:
TO PROMOTE THE PHYSICAL AND PSYCOLOGICAL HEALTH OF MOTHERS AND CHILDREN THROUGH EDUCATION IN THE TECHNIQUE OF BREASTFEEDING, AND TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC AND ESPECIALLY THOSE CONCERNED WITH THE CARE OF CHILDREN IN THE HEALTH BENEFITS BOTH IMMEDIATE AND LONG-TERM OF BREASTFEEDING.

It will be interesting to see what the Charity Commission does, I don't trust them an inch. What's happened to the Mermaids investigation.

It's radioactive. Like NGOs, regulators, every body that should be asserting that no one group trumps another in the protected characteristics, they're all kicking this into the long grass.

Never mind vipers, there's a need for velociraptors when dealing with these pusillanimous appeasers. [/hyperbole]

Datun · 02/05/2024 10:31

In February 2024, LLLI told them: “We focus on providing breastfeeding support and understand the importance of making our spaces welcoming to all those who want to breastfeed or give their babies human milk.

Does it never occur to them that there will be plenty of men who want to attempt to breastfeed with just about as many nefarious reasons as you can come up with??

Eg, they must have encountered lactation fetishists. They're a breastfeeding group, for God's sake, they would've been fighting them off with a stick for years.

“We don’t argue with parents or other leaders about how they identify; we accept them with respect, just as they say they are, and do not refer to them with words that conflict with their identity.”

There's no way these people don't know what's going on.

Kicking the trustees out will be necessary to shut the issue down. I sincerely hope that the sort of man who want to breastfeed are given as much publicity as possible.

Operation let them speak should sort this out double quick.

Startingagainandagain · 02/05/2024 10:34

Whatever happened to common sense?

Someone who was born a man cannot physically have a baby and breastfeed and therefore has no personal need for the support of a breastfeeding charity.

How anyone could argue with that is beyond me...

Imnobody4 · 02/05/2024 10:43

Just seen a blog on line about the same thing in Association of Breastfeeding Mothers

yolandaforster.substack.com/p/the-association-of-breastfeeding

This is mission creep. It is deceptive and it contravenes the rules by which the ABM is funded by British Taxpayers. Taken to its logical conclusion, the ABM can offer support to males who intend to attempt to breastfeed newborn babies. Or it can train trans identifying males to visit newly postpartum women who are at home with newborn babies. Or volunteers to the helpline will be compelled to give breastfeeding ‘advice’ to men with lactophilia - breastfeeding fetish and will not be able to deny them the service if they ‘identify as’ women. Another implication is that a man with a breastfeeding fetish may coerce his wife let him attempt to breastfeed their baby. [And if you think these scenarios are farfetched, I invite you to search for breastfeeding and birth fetish on Reddit.] This conflicts with basic safeguarding for babies and newly post-partum women. It conflicts with the biological imperative of keeping the mother-baby dyad united. It also disregards the safeguarding of ABM volunteers.

Cosmosforbreakfast · 02/05/2024 10:49

Men can't breastfeed a baby. It doesn't matter how they dress, what they call themselves or what kind of hurty feelings they have, they still can't breastfeed. They're men not women. Breastfeeding groups should be deeply ashamed of themselves for trying to destroy women's rights, identities, privacy and safety. Of all groups you'd think they'd have an ounce of cop on and know exactly what a woman is.

Ffs, that link. Some men will fetishise absolutely fucking anything.

Not only the birth of her baby, the baby being weighed!!

And groups devoted to breastfeeding will have had to have been vigilant since their inception.

This cannot possibly be naivety.

We have been told that the change of the meaning of the word Mother to include men who identify as women is inclusive.

We have been told that the change of the word father to include trans men who give birth to babies is inclusive.

We have been told that it is chest feeding not breast feeding.

These trans men are actually complicit in this because it's all part of the push.

I guess this will depend on whether charity commission supposes the LLL has to consider the psychological health of men or want to identify as mothers, it might make them really really sad if they can't act out their fetish on new mothers as well as the infants themselves.

Sickening.

To those saying men can't breastfeed, it's actually WORSE than that- given the correct combination of hormones and drugs, men CAN breastfeed. But the milk is full of the same hormones and drugs which has induced the lactation in the first place.

Meanwhile, women deny themselves the smallest amounts of caffeine, alcohol and medication to ensure their breastmilk is safe for their babies.

Dear BBC, you've got your facts wrong about 'trans milk'

False claims across the media show the nonsense that ensues when you abandon plain language in favour of ideological capture.

Thepartnersdesk · 02/05/2024 13:42

Meanwhile women who can't breastfeed because we have to take medication to stop seizures or many other conditions get all the 'breast is best' stuff regardless of our feelings (I get it, it's a campaign and it's hard to differentiate).

But the bending over backwards for this male type of woman who also shouldn't be feeding milk full of who knows what sticks in the craw. Not only is it ridiculous from a health perspective but once again makes their feelings more important that us lowly women.

Vampirelovebite · 02/05/2024 17:49

LLL and other breastfeeding charities have been fucking vile to women for formula feeding for years and years. To women who were struggling for giving their baby scientifically tested powdered milk. Be kind my arse - the breastfeeding charities are toxic to formula feeding mothers. Yet this - THIS - they think is ok.

Disgusting and perverted. I think anyone who does this or tolerates it should be in fucking jail for child abuse.

I think breastfeeding groups would attract a certain kind of man iykwim a lot and have probably been heavily targeted and threatned.

ZeldaFighter · 02/05/2024 18:24

I imagine several transwomen have joined groups "to support their partners" and have kindly advised on how to be more gender-inclusive so they can "include everybody".

Then, they'll work their way up in the organisation, grinding that axe, maybe tearful complaints about transphobic volunteers, gradually, gradually until they can amend national and international policies....

Only speculating, obviously.

WarriorN · 02/05/2024 19:46

From my experience in one very active LLL group, with a GC leader, it was the women who like to be allies or identify as NB who fiercely fought the tra corner.

It was about the right to refer to breasts as chests etc.

Which I thought was bonkers as men have breasts. And if breast is a sexed word then what is milk bleb? Areola? Nipple?

It was so misogynistic. Not many women agreed with these NB ally women.
