Books about puberty - do any not buy into the gender woo?

Eldest DC is at the age I want to buy him a "growing up" book. He hasn't asked many questions about puberty/sex/relationships so far so I need to take some initiative here.

Can anyone recommend any books that cover this without buying into the gender woo, but still published more recently than the Dark Ages?

I was about to start a similar thread asking for recommendations for books suitable for a 5 year old about the body and also how babies are made - any suggestions? Sorry to hijack

Not very factual at all, but 'Mummy Laid an Egg' is a light, silly picture book about how babies are made that my 2 enjoyed. The kids sept the parents straight at the end!
It prompted some questions which might lead nicely to the factual books x
Also 'Look Inside your Body' by Usbourne is a fab general body book with lift the flaps. We read that one to death.

Why not have a conversation instead. He will work out the “facts” soon enough for himself, not your hateful mindset.

I appreciate the focus on accuracy to put “facts” in quotation marks to convey that these are not actually facts at all, in fact they are completely false concepts a number of people think it’s a good idea to mislead children with.

Agree
THE best book for where babies come from is Mummy Laid An Egg by Babette Cole

It is perfect for age five, it's all funny and realistic and as honest as you need.

WellExactly2 · 01/05/2024 21:36

Thanks @PoochiesPinkEars bought that one too!

I got one called the girls guide to growing up. It’s aimed at girls but no reasons why a boy couldn’t read it for information. And being a good partner when he’s older :)

Lord Robert Winston does a book. it's good. Called Help your kids with growing up. No gender woo

Yes he's one of the Lords who rescued the terminology of the Maternity Bill and made me rethink my views on the Upper House.

I know you are looking for your son, but for the benefit of this thread, mums of girls need to watch out for the hating your body narrative, as well as gender woo.

A lot of puberty books for girls have the default position that the reader will already think she is fat and ugly and that it is perfectly normal to think that.

What do you mean? He went on TV and said "you categorically cannot change your sex". His book predates gender woo

@SwordToFlamethrower I think @AutumnCrow meant that she used to not see the point of the Lords/wanted Lords reform, but reassessed that view having seen the essential check the Lords are on the excesses of elected MPs.
