I had to double check who she was; this is awful. I hope she's ok

Wow how awful. They will go for anyone, it really is a witch hunt for daring to think true things.

That makes me feel bad about saying I'm relieved to hear Judy Singer hasn't jumped on the bandwagon and is a voice of reason. But I am relieved because what she has to say is really important in relation to the way the trans agenda is getting tangled up with autism and the ND movement. I do hope we are at a tipping point and as she is influential her views might be able to help reduce the damage.

WarriorN · 29/04/2024 11:55

It really is awful.

I can't help wondering what the wider implications of this are too for the autistic community. Both in terms of those also speaking out and how it might further shape policy.

BonfireLady · 29/04/2024 13:21

This is mental.
Is there anything on Twitter/X?

Thank you for sharing.

It feels like it needs wide publicity to help tackle the conflation of autism and gender identity belief.

WarriorN · 29/04/2024 13:26

She's posted here - I haven't found out much more but it seems to be deliberate and coordinated.

Thanks @WarriorN for the link to Judy Singer's blog post. Just started reading it and I found this:

The word "Normal" evolved from Eugenics to separate Normal "Us" from Abnormal"Them". Its intent is pejorative.

I did not know the word 'normal' evolved from eugenics.

WarriorN · 29/04/2024 14:35

No I didn't know that either

IDoNotConsentToAstonResearch · 29/04/2024 14:37

Op do you have her permission to share this on here? Generally sharing screenshots from Facebook is not ok.

WarriorN · 29/04/2024 14:44

They're public Facebook posts I think, I've found one of them.

ArabellaScott · 29/04/2024 14:44

OP, I've pm'd you.

It doesn't, it's from the Latin. Not sure what she means by this

Aha!

The etymology of the word "normal" is so interesting someone has written an entire book about it...

How, Exactly, Did We Come Up with What Counts As ‘Normal’?

Where did normal come from, and why does it have the power it does in our lives, in our institutions, in our world? How did it become like air—invisible, essential, all around us? As Ian Hacking wa…

I think because she has posted it in a public group asking for help and more awareness about what is happening I thought it would be OK to share here with ppl who will be interested and want to help her raise awareness

I didn't know she had a blog, this is great thanks! I've definitely been using the term Neurodiversity/diverse/divergent wrong

Yes apologies, I thought it might be a private group. It sounds like sharing it is fine.

Me too and now I would like to read her book. It's important as work is jumping on the bandwagon and it's important to clarify what we mean.

I took it to mean that it became common to refer to some humans as a "normal" example of a human, aka, "correct" and then "abnormal humans." Which is horribly ableist and basically eugenics.

So the word isn't from eugenics but became to be used in that context there?

WarriorN · 30/04/2024 10:48

I haven't read @inkymoose's article yet tho....

RainbowZebraWarrior · 30/04/2024 10:59

How is it actually legal for these utter cunts to do this to her?

Fucking despair.

WarriorN · 30/04/2024 11:08

From what I read last night she's Australian and this has come from US people.

Some of it seems to be accusations that she didn't coin the term, but the rest seems to be a TRA smearing campaign which has somehow made it into a US rag.

Judy Singer has been very badly treated by some people who are now attempting to be 'Top Neurodiversity Activists' but who disapprove of her stance on trans ideology. Please be wary of them! This blog (the last of a 4 part series) describes some of their activities. It also, in my view, raises some important questions about the whole ND movement - in all its versions:

There's something wrong with scientific research.
It just seems too easy to manipulate these days...
How in the world did we get here? and I have no idea how to help.
