I caught the tail end of him being asked about the Cass Report, just before 7am.

Nick Robinson asked him repeatedly if he accepted the report's findings but Harvie cherrypicked a few of the findings to defend the TRA side (eg puberty blockers are beneficial before the age of 15) and went into a monologue saying the report has been politicised and weaponised by anti trans people who want to erase trans people's existence. Nick Robinson repeatedly asked him over his monologue if he supported the report's findings but he droned on and refused to answer.

Programme recording will be available after the programme finishes.

I still haven't had chance to listen but Helen Joyce quote tweeted a very apt thread about the Oedipus Trap. Patrick seems like an example of someone who could have fallen in to it:

Here's the article she's referring to (it's also worth reading the author's full thread if you have access to X):

Exquisite choice of framing and superb writing from McArdle.

Outstanding name for the phenomenon.

Excellent example of sincere surgeon, utterly convinced of the morality and rightness of his actions, who nonetheless did tremendous harm.

Just what I needed @ArabellaScott, thanks!

In more positive news, I have just seen the English Green Party's health spokesperson say that she unequivocally supports the Cass review and Anyone who misrepresents her recommendations & politicises them, is doing a grave injustice to children’s health &wellbeing

I'm all for golden bridges (although sometimes I need a moment). However, when someone from a party that's been as tras as the Greens (even if not as batshit as the SG) says something like this, I think I can be forgiven for waiting for the other shoe to fall.

Can anyone on twiX say what their stance...was prior to Cass? If they were all twaw/tmam/nb...summat/bigots then I'm going to remain sceptical that they've seen the error of their ways.

Would be delighted to be wrong though.

WarriorN · 22/04/2024 13:41

@IcakethereforeIam

A huge number of brave green women have spoken out against the ridiculous policies and have been evicted from the party. Or vilified. Or both.

Even more have been working behind the scenes avoiding the purge with a view to changing the narrative when they have the public evidence such as this to do so. She a medic so can now take that line with Cass.

IcakethereforeIam · 22/04/2024 14:31

@WarriorN thank you, I know and it's not my intention to belittle them. But we've seen a whole spectrum of reactions to Cass. I'm just curious if this person is one of the ones who, while being right all along, has finally been vindicated. It seems that are one of the good guys?

Who's that brilliant Scottish comedian who sings songs about the Green party on this? I can picture the video of him poking fun at Ross Greer, Patrick Harvie and others in a particularly genius example about children and gender identity.
Do you know the one I mean?

Crikey. Bell seems very confident in his assertions.

Who is ‘us’ in this statement? The Greens are part of the Scottish Government,

'NEW: Scottish Green MSP Ross Greer has told@LBC
he did not describe the Cass report as "transphobic", says he retweeted a tweet by a trans person that did to amplify how trans people were feeling - and says it's up to clinicians to decide on healthcare not politicians

ArabellaScott · 22/04/2024 17:30

'He says it "wouldn't end well" for LGBT people if it was left to politicians to decide their healthcare. Says if more evidence/studies are rqd the Scottish Govt should support that Says his party is worried about impact on small number of young people affected by decision.'

'Also believes the emotion and anger felt by SGP members in last week is dying down and hopes for more discussion in run up to the vote on the Bute House Agreement which will be in four weeks time. Says it's better to be in the room to get things done, than be in opposition.'

Can't wait to hear how this goes down with the Rainbow Greens!

Warmfeet · 22/04/2024 17:34

Turns out they weren’t trans

So Greer has either lied or misgendered someone?

Ode to the Ferret

I never wrote that thing I wrote
I'm sorry now I wrote it
But I can tell you anyhow

Apologies to the Purple Cow writer.

It appears that the leadership of the Scottish Greens have deleted ALL their tweets about the Cass Review.

Patrick Harvie, Lorna Slater, Maggie Chapman and Ross Greer's accounts have, as far as I can tell, been wiped clear of all references to Cass.
