OpusGiemuJavlo · 17/04/2024 16:02

Just heard this pre-news trailer for what they will be talking about in a few minutes - should be interesting.

"In the light of the Cass review, we are asking Did journalism get it wrong?"

It does look like the new line is "don't frighten the horses".

Are you calling India a horse? I suppose if the besequined bridle fits...

BoreOfWhabylon · 17/04/2024 17:50

Missed this and I see "this episode is not currently available" on BBC Sounds Hmm

Merrymouse · 17/04/2024 17:52

Is reporting of climate change, religion and the Middle East too inflammatory?

Was Brexit not a culture war?

The reason we have reached this point is that people have been persuaded that any discussion of sex, gender and identity is too inflammatory.

AutumnCrow · 17/04/2024 17:54

I'm glad we have these threads as archives for all the 'unavailable' discussions.

nauticant · 17/04/2024 17:56

It will be on BBC Sounds soon.

GrimDamnFanjo · 17/04/2024 17:57

Katie Razzal is the daughter of the libdem peer, Lord Razzall.
Just sayin...

LizzieSiddal · 17/04/2024 18:05

Well the BBC is obviously going to have to cover its areas isn’t it and KBs “difficult story to talk about” just about does that Hmm

Absolutely appalling and maddening from the BBC.

It is now! I'm listening in the app. Sometimes takes a while to be available

WarriorN · 17/04/2024 18:27

I've just listened and need to listen again without kids begging for snacks but it was glorious to hear Hannah say that the bbc hadn't been impartial and why the hell hadn't health journalists covered it.

And many journalists had been shit.

Glad Deb Cohen was mentioned as she did an awful lot in the early stages of this unfolding

PurpleWhirple · 17/04/2024 18:34

I was going to listen to this until I saw here that it's Katie Razzall. No need now as it will be absolutely piss poor.

JennyForeigner · 17/04/2024 18:40

nauticant · 17/04/2024 16:59

In a deeply ironic moment, Razzall was interviewing a bloke who made a Netflix show called Sex Education, she touched on trans, that being a topic in one of the episodes he made, and he said that as a straight white cis man he didn't want to talk about the topic.

The pontificate on that guy.

assumes noble self-important voice 'I? A white cis male? AYE would never presume to comment on trans affairs. Silence women journalists. How very dare you cross the lines I now draw!'

KR (genuinely surprised) but you did write a plot line about it in your rubbish show tho right.

Honestly, the SMUGNESS.

rhywlodes · 17/04/2024 18:44

It's a good listen @PurpleWhirple as the 3 journalists she has on are very forthright and sensible. They pause a little before answering, giving listeners a chance to roll our eyes at the soppy line of questioning, before hearing a nice clear answer. I just listened to that bit though, so can't comment on the 'white cis male' bit!

nauticant · 17/04/2024 18:48

The 'white cis male' bit was a throw-away part in a not especially interesting segment at the end of the programme. You can stop listening after the first 20 minutes.

Villagetoraiseachild · 17/04/2024 18:51

ladymalfoy45 · 17/04/2024 16:24

I'm yet to be convinced the KR is a decent journalist. I get the impression she simply regurgitates information a researcher has given her.

I completely agree, she seems to do News Lite.

The LibDems who accepted £1.4m from Ferrings, a pharmaceutical company that produces puberty blockers? Those LibDems?

Merrymouse · 17/04/2024 18:56

I definitely eye rolled when at the end Razzall asked whether if no clear evidence they should just listen to people in pain.

No, if there were concern about any other area of patient care competent journalists wouldn’t just ignore the NHS trusts/doctors/whistleblowers/researchers and get anecdotes from patients.

(They had already covered the usefulness and limits of individual stories).

MsGoodenough · 17/04/2024 18:59

Him refusing to comment on trans issues because he was straight cis white male was enraging. What a pompous twat. He's using virtue signalling as a mask for cowardice.

WarriorN · 17/04/2024 20:12

Hannah was more open and critical than I've heard her before.

I felt she was gagged on trigonometry. I'd love to see her on there again or maybe as part of a group discussion. @triggerpod

Bet theres many things he'd express an opinion on despite his 'white cis-hetness': what a lazy, and stupid idea that we can't think or empathize,or then critically think ,without specific personal experience. A ridiculous cultural poison.

I wonder if he would use the same excuse if asked whether racism is bad?

I haven’t listened but I’m glad this is being said

I feel much more scrutiny is needed

nauticant · 18/04/2024 19:55

Bumping to let people know that this programme is going to be repeated in 5 minutes from 8pm on Radio 4.
