Would you compete?

I would not take part? Would you?

A trans-identified male dominated the WOMEN'S 200m Varsity at the Sherwood Need for Speed Classic in Sherwood, Oregon🇺🇸. Aayden Gallagher, a boy who "identifies" as a girl, set a new record after easily defeating his female competitors.

No: the organisers and sports bodies need to stop allowing this unfairness.

KohlaParasaurus · 14/04/2024 17:48

Even if the girls didn't want to compete they may have been put under considerable pressure to do so.

Igmum · 14/04/2024 17:53

Agree. The girls would be condemned as transphobes and probably lose any chance of a college scholarship/lose existing scholarships. It's the sports associations themselves that need to stop this cheating.

Loopytiles · 14/04/2024 18:57

Y it’s the responsibility of the organisers, sports bodies, sponsors of events and university scholarships etc.

Understandable that many girls and young women can’t / won’t complain when so much can be at stake for them.

Terrible that they are unfairly losing out to people whose athletics abilities for the accurate category are mediocre.

mrshoho · 14/04/2024 19:03

No one in their right mind can honestly think this is ok. It's ridiculous and a complete piss take.

You only have to go back a few years ago and this could be a comedy sketch.

That is shocking. Those poor girls, to be so clearly shown that the organisers of their sport think they don't matter at all when there is a male that needs appeasing. And that male child should be embarrassed at that result, but no doubt won't be.

DuesToTheDirt · 14/04/2024 22:08

"New record," wow that boils my piss. New record in what, cheating?

"I'm a laydee...."

They couldn't do it now.

SD1978 · 14/04/2024 22:22

Stunning and brave. The only one in a skirt, which usually isn't worn in women athletics........

60andsomething · 14/04/2024 22:25

The girls probably dont have any sort of choice - it can be the only possible route into further education for so many

Giggorata · 14/04/2024 22:26

That man is a cheat.

Why is this being allowed?

To cover the male genitalia I imagine. This is so unfair, those poor girls.

I completely agree with this. American sports at this age/level often - I’m given to believe - have scholarships attached to them so it’s not just a case of sporting records but whether or not you can go to college.

Well, that makes a change.

They usually like as much on show as possible. Unless there's something in it for them. Like being clocked as a man in a woman's event.

He must be aware that winning looks bad when you're the lone and very obvious male competing.

AtrociousCircumstance · 14/04/2024 23:46

This is sickening. How has it come to this. Twisted into being the ‘right’ thing - to tear down any of the gains once made by the women’s rights movement.

Ingenieur · 14/04/2024 23:59

He's not even trying to hold back to keep the dysphoria at bay... a 6 second win!

It's also bc you get preferential admissions. If the uni wants you on the team, it can be worth 100 - 200 points on your SAT. (I.e., your scores can be lower than the typical admit.) So unless you don't care where you go to college (or you're brilliant enough to get a 1600 SAT), you'll want to be recruited for your sport by your dream schools. The money is important too.

If you protest, it could alienate the coach, the admissions office, or future teammates.

He didn't wear shorts because he didn't want to draw attention to his penis, I'm guessing.

Helleofabore · 15/04/2024 05:56

I watched this and felt sick. Those poor young women. But on the other hand, it took one of those races where Lia Thomas trounced the female swimmers to really capture the public's eye. This male athlete is piquing interest around the world that this male athlete most certainly didn't think through.

How many people will watch this and accept any male athlete in female events in the future? I am sure many will be watching that and think, 'hang on? Didn't we see this before? Why is this still happening?'

Helleofabore · 15/04/2024 07:22

As to would I compete, considering that the teams that have chosen to not compete when presented with trans athletes in the stated have been punished by the relevant sports body, do any of these female athletes have the option?

Remember, young women cannot even have a male who sits with a cushion over their lap excluded from their sorority, and female athletes who protest in even a very mild fashion are vilified. It is not young women who protest for fair sport who are invited to meet Biden, is it? It is Mulvaney.

Otter2 · 15/04/2024 07:48

Those girls just looked so defeated at the end - in every way. My heart breaks for them.
He is a vile cheat.

This is the problem.

All of these people saying that it's women's fault for continuing to compete have no idea how much these girls' futures may depend of scholarships etc .

This is not a level playing field in more ways than one.

Changenamefortoday · 15/04/2024 08:43

It's like the episode of Futurama where Bender has a sex change to compete in the robot Olympics. Looks like a documentary now.

Edited to add link.

The reaction from the audience is interesting. Dead silence as the 'winner' crosses the line, muted cheers as the women finish.
