Am watching this on Netflix and SPOILERS...

The main dude is being stalked by a woman and has a secret relationship with a trans woman (who appears to be a RL TW)

Am only 1.5 episodes in but 2 things have stood out to me so far.

When talking about the stalker the TW says 'she's a fantasist who's fabricated an entire identity'

And then (for context the guy has joined the TW dating app under another name as he's ashamed) she says to him 'it's illegal to have sex with someone under a false identity'

Is it my GC outlook or are these statements both highly ironic coming from a TW?

I doubt Gadd is GC. The character explores very openly why he sought out a trans partner and why he used a fake name. You do need to watch on to understand the things he does.

I thought it was interesting that his abuse made him question his sexuality, which apparently happens a lot which male on male sexual abuse, so he saw the trans website as a halfway house before actually dating gay men. The trans actor was clearly trans and didn't pass at all but seemed like a sympathetic character, though like a PP, I doubt he bears much resemblance to the actual trans woman RG dated. It felt very cartoony and fake to me, especially the sex scenes. I really doubt there are many post op trans women having standard missionary position sex.

Why not? It's very easy to have anal sex in missionary position.

It's interesting that the dramatised versions of stalking which really capture the public imagination involve women stalking men, to the point where we have the term 'bunny-boiler' for an over-obsessed women (a term I have heard men use about any woman who isn't completely passive and undemanding in a relationship), but the reality of stalking is that it is still a predominantly male-on-female crime and males are far more likely to escalate it to violence and murder. The entertainment industry obviously prefers the unusual to the mundane but this skews towards those who are desperate to jump on any evidence that goes 'Look! Women are just as bad as men!'

I’ve only watched two episodes so far. It’s quite a stressful show so I don’t think I’ll be able to binge it.

The Teri character is okay. She doesn’t seem to be claiming to be anything that she is not … and so far she is being treated really badly by the main character.

The main character Donny is doing my head in. He can’t face an unpleasant confrontation so is leading the Martha person on. I mean, I know she is nutty (and so does he) but he has appalling boundaries. Glad that is going to be explained later.

I know that the person Martha portrayed is having a hard time in real life. I wonder a bit how the person Teri portrays feels about being in the show.

I thought Teri was very beautiful but I couldn't see her as anything other than a male person once she spoke, and yes the jawline was a dead giveaway. It was actually refreshing that the character acknowledged that she was trans and not the exact same as a woman (I don't think she was post op and this was alluded to on the train if I remember correctly). Donny treated her terribly though and she should have ghosted him after he left her on the tube. The main character clearly also saw Teri as male and pretty much said as much, but no screams of transphobia? Guess that treatment is only reserved for women.

My DH was stalked and I was surprised at how little it bothered him - it freaked me out a lot more!
