Just so it doesn’t go unnoticed among all the Cass stuff, but another male is somehow still allowed to compete in women’s sport and the BBC are still calling males female.

When will they STOP with the “reducing my testosterone” crap.

“Reducing” male testosterone will still leave a DSD (male) athlete with a much higher natural level than would be acceptable in a female athlete and would probably lead to accusations of doping were a female athlete to be tested at that level.

Secondly, reducing testosterone does not stop the other advantages that a male body that has been through a male puberty automatically has like muscle strength, bone length, heart and lung capacity, male pelvic development, twitch reflex etc etc etc

Reducing male testosterone does not do anything to even out the huge issues that having a hormonal female body has for a female born athlete , for example increased injury due to hormonal changes loosening ligaments during the menstrual cycle, the menstrual cycle itself interrupting training, female pelvic development not being as straightforward for running.

And most importantly , why should a biological male be allowed to take medals, titles, training opportunities, sponsorship, a place in record books and all the other rewards that should rightly belong to a female athlete who has trained, put their life on hold, held dreams and ambitions and been seen as a role model for younger aspiring female athletes.

If you are a good enough athlete to compete as a male then do that against other males and take your chances, if the only way you can win is to compete unfairly then you need to wonder at the mind set of someone who equates that with personal success.

It is not fair, it is cheating, and if anything in sport is to be of value it is about fairness and equal comparison between peers on the day .

BBC article says CM is a female with a DSD but other articles / info suggests that CM’s particular condition only affects males. Does anyone know? I do wish the BBC would report accurately.

Chersfrozenface · 12/04/2024 14:41

CM was banned because CM is 46 XY karyotype with a DSD, that is, a male.

ThreeEggOmlette · 12/04/2024 16:27

@Signalbox - I thought exactly the same thing & went searching.

According to this article I found - which gives some scientific sounding evidence - CM is indeed male with a XY-only DSD.

I can't verify the integrity of the source but the end para indicates this is written by a believer, as they think males with DSDs should participate in women's sport because of human rights of men to dominate everything

DSD Regulations call out athletes as biologically male - Sports Integrity Initiative

Last week, two Namibian athletes were excluded from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after being assessed under the DSD Regulations of World Athletics. It has been widely reported that the DSD Regulations (PDF below) seek to exclude ‘women’ whose testosterone l...

Same DSD as Caster Semenya so yes, male.

Plasmodesmata · 12/04/2024 16:40

How is Christine allowed to compete but Caster is not?

theilltemperedclavecinist · 12/04/2024 16:41

Literally the only difference from any other male is - tiny penis and no scrotum (it's a fœtal development thing, gonads stay inside). May even be able to father children, with the right medical help.

ETA they probably couldn't compete against other men. Testosterone levels are massive compared to women but lower than men without this DSD.

How is Christine allowed to compete but Caster is not?

Semenya refused to take androgen blockers.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 12/04/2024 16:42

My understanding is that there are people employed to specifically seek out those with this chromosomal difference with the sole intent of utilising it in a sporting environment. I wonder why 🤦🏻‍♀️

Christine Mboma is prepared to lower circulating testosterone, Semenya is not.

Only males, 46XY with DSDs are required to lower testosterone from normal male levels (not “naturally high” as is often reported 🙄) to well below the normal range for males.

Females, 46XX with a condition that gives them higher than average female testosterone levels are not required to lower those levels. Naturally high female testosterone levels are still nowhere near as high as normal male levels.

We don’t know for sure if Mboma has the same condition as Semenya (5 alpha reductase 2 deficiency) but it will be one of a small number of conditions outlined in the Semenya Cas Ruling.

Mboma has already taken a medal off a woman in Tokyo and at the Commnwealth games and prize money. Presumably Mboma thinks there’s a pretty good chance of success still, which would make sense because we know lowering testosterone doesn’t remove male advantage.

Yes. A testosterone specialist called Ekkart Arbeit is one of the world's scouts for these athletes. He was also involved in the performance enhancing drugs given to female athletes in East Germany.

If I recall, the South African government hired him to shape their athletics team as head coach.

Arbeit knew just where to go and exactly what type of athletes to look for.

This is akin to searching for the tiny number of competent athletes who were born on February 29th, then using their number of birthdays to claim they are still eligible to compete in junior level events.

WickedSerious · 13/04/2024 16:21

It's cheating, plain and simple and it needs to stop.
