Can anyone help me and break down the cass report?

Cass0 · 10/04/2024 14:03

I know there are lots of threads on this but I have a personal investment in this and I need the information to use in correspondence.

I have autism and ADHD and everytime I try and read a thread I'm just getting lost in it and I can't seem to stop my head swarming. I've been trying all morning but I'm having a bad day for reading and comprehension.

Could some any take a moment to break down any of the bigger points into quotes, especially regarding schools and social transitioning guideline or recommendations.

Thank you.

If you can't do this or don't want to please don't tell me I'm lazy etc. I just keep reading the same paragraphs over again.

Good grief. Some people are desperate, aren't they?

I'm going to ignore the sad face straw clutcher who has spammed your request. Hope you found the above links useful OP.

The Cass Report is already discredited. It is a political positioning. Extremely Sad. They dismissed most studies showing the success of blockers because they were not double blinded control studies and newer studies of the last two years.

This is a next to impossible standard, and not one you see elsewhere. It's unethical to do this type of control study on kids - like giving one a parachute and one none when the plane is crashing.

What a complete load of toss, biased, and not worthy of he paper written on.

You big, daft, sausage! Are you copy-pasting this nonsense in every thread? 🤣

OP, the BMJ have published an interview with Dr Cass on YouTube, you might find that a useful route in if you prefer listening to reading (and 388 pages is pretty daunting!)

Sad to hear of you and your child’s experience@Cass0. Schools had a mix of guidelines and very muddy water on the issue, until recently. If there are members of staff who want to fully support gender questioning children, this was often pushed through. Mistakes were made sometimes by well meaning adults often naïve or ignorant. Some staff had agendas off their own to push, which is clearly unethical and stronger guidance was needed.

The Cass report is now making it clear that social transition isn’t a decision to be made by school staff who aren’t medically trained and therefore shouldn’t happen without parental agreement. I’m hoping this is added to DfE policy asap and guidance is statutory.

My daughters school has 3 trans teacher so compliance was always high.

Only discredited by those who have a vested interest in the mutilation and sterilisation of children.

But you go off, boo.

Oh I needed a good fucking laugh and I've only just seen this post.

Thanks for not disappointing Mishi. I'm looking forward to the debunking posts from our other resident trans experts.

Also. This is the digital age, so my copy of the Cass Review isn't on paper. It's on my phone.

Please dont help the derailers derail by responding. Your response makes not difference, and as said up thread, OP is asking for help and doesn't need to wade throught this blatant baiting.

Sorry OP but hopefully some of the links provided up thread will help.

And I am sure there are sensible people and groups taking their time so there maybe more tomorrow.

I think that at the moment summaries and comments are focusing on the implications within the NHS setting.

And it may take a little while for anyone to look at or even decide if the report will impact on schools. Presumably (hopefuly) the DofE will maybe comment and / or NUS reviews its guidelines.

I see that the Bayswater Support Group did do a review of the interim report in relation to schools https://bayswatersupport.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/The-Cass-Review-The-significance-for-educational-settings.pdf so it may be worth keeping an eye out for them doing a similar review of the Final Report.

Wow. Surely this needs to be looked at? You could possibly check the schools complaints procedure and complain? The teachers code of conduct clearly states that they shouldn’t show any political bias! I’ve heard of school staff being subject to complaints regarding veganism for example. It might be hard to prove but I think it’s worth pursuing now the Cass Report is out.

Hey Mishy, you’re talking absolute nonsense.

rabbitwoman · 12/04/2024 12:19

These links are all invaluable. As are @MishyJDI 's contributions because we now know exactly what the TRAs are going to be throwing about and we can arm ourselves to respond accordingly, just like all their other nonsense claims.

Of course, the criticism that Cass ignored all but 2 of the 52 studies will come up, and stuff about 'double blind' studies and poor methodology and it is designed to completely confuse anyone, like me, going into a meeting with my school's SLT after the Easter break with a view to getting this rubbish out of the classroom at my school (I expect there will be compromise).

I don't have enough technical understanding to combat it directly. I can only say that this report has influenced the prime minister, the shadow health secretary and the NHS to make some very bold, definite statements about the way forward and THEY will have been advised by someone who understands. So I am satisfied with that!

I can't recommend Testing Treatments enough. It's a very straightforward book and intentionally written to be easy to read.

It's a free download and audiobook. If you haven't, give it a look or a listen. Not for you to overburden yourself, but as a resource to offer to people who issue the thought terminating clichés about "impossible standards".

I would advise you to upload the report to ChatGPT and ask it to summarise the content for you. That way you will get an impartial overview of the findings, which it sounds like you are after 😊

lordloveadog · 12/04/2024 20:27

The report itself has a good summary with each recommendation highlighted. It’s actually probably best just to go straight to that. It’s a very user-friendly report design, as well as state of the art research.
