Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

@NoisySnail
So to be racist againt a white person is different to being racist against a non white person?
Isn't that itself racist? Treating people differently based on the colour of their skin.

Was it extreme far right wingers who reported JKR to Police Scotland for transphobia?

OvaHere · 08/04/2024 12:50

I don't think it matters in the slightest whether reports are genuine and heartfelt, mass generated trolling or everything in-between. When a ludicrous law is created in which self perception is king and the final word in what is offensive then this is what you get.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 08/04/2024 12:52

its a terrible piece of legislation - regardless of anyone’s views on gender identity/ideology. What is happening now could have been (and in fact was) predicted by anyone with half a brain.

I think he wants you to report the Right Sort of Hate.

This far in (or up the arsehole) it's difficult to know what anyone means anymore.

Never a truer word! But the Right sort has to be reported by the Right Sort?

DoreenonTill8 · 08/04/2024 12:57

@NoisySnail is that not what they said though? You can't say that's not a hate crime, it's anyones' perception even if not involved, or do you think only 'the Right Sort' are allowed to report a hate crime?

SerendipityJane · 08/04/2024 12:58

Ironically (whisper it) there are parallels here with the Poll Tax. And the fact that Scotland suffered first and most from that should really wake some folk up as to how bad this whole row is.

A piece of legislation rammed through a parliament in the face of almost universal criticism and explanation of how it will go wrong ... goes wrong.

'Harvie claimed opponents of the change “deliberately try to pretend every expression of prejudice or just nastiness or anything offensive or hurtful is going to be criminalised”, adding: “As soon as the Act comes into force they start performatively coming out with these prejudiced, hurtful statements and saying ‘arrest me, arrest me’ in this petulant manner.'

'Petulant'? That's quite rude, Patrick.

“Then when they don’t get arrested they try to claim some hollow victory.
“It really is performative nonsense. If it was just a game they were playing it would be shallow and silly and trivial, but it has real world consequences.”

How does he know which reports are genuine and which are performative?

Is it like genuine trans and performative trans and the real world consequences of not being able to tell one from the other?

Yes, some are real hate crimes and some are "at it".

The problems is extreme right wing groups are encouraging supporters to report as hate crime anti racist statements, as hate crime against white people. That is why they are deluged.

This sounds like standard conspiracy theorising to distract from what an absolute shitshow the whole policy is.

The extreme right wing bogeyman to be blamed for everything.

OvaHere · 08/04/2024 13:07

I remember during the Trump administration in the US there were some laws that the Obama admin brought in thinking only they would be able to use them to their advantage (might have been around filibustering/supreme court stuff).

There was a lot of discussion at the time about how you always need to think carefully about what your opposition will do with any laws you bring in. I feel like this applies here too and they were warned, repeatedly.

littlbrowndog · 08/04/2024 14:00

I have not reported any hateful hate crimes this week yet………
